NASHVILLE– No. 8 (NCBWA) Trevecca Nazarene University baseball (29-7, 15-5 Great Midwest) swept Saturday's doubleheader against Lake Erie College (3-24, 1-15 Great Midwest), winning 23-1 in game one (seven innings) and 16-6 in game two at Jackson Field. The 29-7 start to the season is the best start with seven losses for the Trojans in the DII era, with the previous best being the 2007 season, where the Trojans started 27-7-1. The 2004 Trojans started the season 36-7-1. The 23 runs in game one are the second-most runs in a game in the DII era. The second time this season, the Trojans have scored 20 or more runs. The last time before this season the Trojans scored more than 20 runs was against Davis & Elkins in the 2014-15 season, where they won 24-2.

SERIES HISTORY/NOTES

The Trojans take the all-time series lead 7-6 since entering the Great Midwest Athletic Conference in the 2017-18 season. 

HOW IT HAPPENED

GAME ONE: 

The Trojans started strong by storming to a 6-0 lead after the second inning. Logan West hit a single that brought Zeke Lecomte in for the first run. Then with one out, Roland Ryan hit a double, which scored Jordan Jackson, Logan West, and David Milam. Henry Mosley hit a two-run home run into left field to make it 6-0. The Trojans continued the hot bats in the third inning when Shawn Wallwork hit a single that brought in Logan West. Then Braden Odom hit a grand slam with two out to make it 11-0. Lake Erie got on the board with one run in the fourth, but the Trojans added a run in the fourth inning and nine in the fifth inning to make it 21-1. Five straight runs in the fifth inning were scored off wild pitches by Lake Erie. The Trojans added two more runs late to make it 23-1. 

GAME TWO: 

Lake Erie got out to an early 3-0 lead in the first inning. But in the bottom of the first, the Trojans took the lead back with five runs. Braden Odom hit a single that scored Shawn Wallwork. Then Henry Mosley hit a single that scored Jordan Jackson. Bryant Goolsby followed that up with a two-RBI double that brought Mosley and Odom to give the Trojans the 4-3 lead. They extended the lead when Logan West singled to bring in Goolsby. In the second inning, the Trojans continued the scoring when Roland Ryan hit a two-run home run into left-center field. Later in the inning, with one out, Bryant Goolsby hit the second home run of the inning to make it 7-3. Logan West hit a double with two out that scored Ryan Mortensen to make it 10-3. Lake Erie added a run in the third inning. Then in the fifth inning, Roland Ryan hit a solo home run into left field. Then with one out, Zeke Lecomte hit a single to score Henry Mosley. Logan West hit a double that scored Zeke Lecomte and Bryant Goolsby to make it 14-4. Lake Erie chipped away at their deficit again in the sixth inning with two more runs to make it 14-6. In the eighth inning, the Trojans added two more runs to force the run rule.

INSIDE THE BOX SCORE- GAME ONE

  • Braden Odom went 2-5 with a home run, four RBIs, and three runs scored.
  • Henry Mosley went 1-2 with a home run, two RBIs, and two runs scored.
  • Shawn Wallwork went 3-4 with a double, three RBIs, and two runs scored.
  • Caleb Bly (3-2) pitched five innings and allowed only one run on four hits while striking out five batters.

INSIDE THE BOX SCORE- GAME TWO

  • Roland Ryan went 2-6 with two home runs, three RBIs, and two runs scored.
  • Bryant Goolsby went 2-4 with a home run, a double, four RBIs, and three runs scored.
  • Logan West went 3-3 with two doubles, four RBIs, and one run scored.
  • Davis Jackson (3-0) pitched 4.1 innings and allowed two runs on three hits while striking out four batters.

UP NEXT

The Trojans will visit Lee University (17-18) on Tuesday starting at 5:00 PM. Then they will visit Tiffin University (17-14, 12-4 Great Midwest) for a four-game series on Friday and Saturday, starting at 12:00 PM.
