NASHVILLE – Trevecca Nazarene University softball (22-9, 6-2 Great Midwest) swept Saturday's double-header against Tiffin University (13-21, 2-6 Great Midwest) by winning 8-0 (six innings) in game one and winning 8-7 in game two at the Trojan Softball Complex.

HOW IT HAPPENED

GAME ONE:

After the first inning, the Trojans got out to an early 1-0 lead. With two out, Sydney McCormick hit a single that brought home Lenna Robinson. Then in the fourth inning, the Trojans extended their lead when Gracie Kirby hit a double, which brought Carly Sperlich in for the score. Then Kendall Andrews hit a double, which scored Victoria Clark. Then with two out, Anna Bennett hit a single, bringing Kendall Andrews to make it 5-0. In the fifth inning, Kelsey McPeters hit a single, and Malone Thrift and Megan Walker both scored on an error by Tiffin to make it 7-0. In the sixth inning, Katie Brooks hit a single to score Carly Sperlich to make it 8-0 and force the run rule. 

GAME TWO:

The Trojans got on the board early when Sydney McCormick hit a double that scored Anna Bennett and Kendall Andrews in the bottom of the first inning. McCormick would be brought home on a sacrifice fly out by Gracie Kirby. Tiffin responded with a home run to cut the deficit to 3-2, with the Trojans still leading. Kendall Andrews hit a solo home run in the bottom of the second to make it 4-2. Then with two out, Lenna Robinson stole home to extend the Trojan's lead. Tiffin would not be put away as they responded with another two-run home run to make it 5-4. Then they added another run in the fourth inning to tie the game. To regain the lead, Malone Thrift hit a solo home run in the fourth inning. Then in the fifth inning, Sydney McCormick hit a solo home run to extend the lead to 7-5. Tiffin tied the game up in the sixth inning, with the Trojans escaping a bases-loaded situation to end the inning. Then in the bottom of the seventh, Gracie Kirby hit a single to score Megan Walker to walk off the game.

CIRCLE AND BOX NOTES- GAME ONE:

• Gracie Kirby went 2-3 with two doubles and an RBI.
• Kendall Andrews went 2-3 with a double, an RBI, and one run scored.
• Anna Bennett went 2-4 with two RBIs.
• Ashlan Sensing (10-3) pitched six innings and did not allow a run on three hits while striking out 10 batters.

CIRCLE AND BOX NOTES- GAME TWO

• Ashlan Sensing (11-3) pitched one inning in relief, allowing no runs on one hit while striking out two of the three batters she faced.
• Kendall Andrews went 2-4 with a home run, a double, an RBI, and two runs scored.
• Sydney McCormick went 3-4 with a home run, a double, three RBIs, and two runs scored.
• Malone Thrift went 1-3 with a home run, an RBI, and one run scored.

UP NEXT

On Friday, the Trojans go on the road for a double-header against Hillsdale College (17-17, 5-1 Great Midwest), starting at 12:00 PM. On Saturday, they will then face the University of Findlay (23-9, 7-1 Great Midwest) for another double-header.
