NASHVILLE – Trevecca Nazarene University softball (30-15, 14-8 Great Midwest) swept Saturday's double-header against Ursuline College (13-23, 11-11 Great Midwest) by winning 9-0 in game one and 3-1 in-game two at Trojan Softball Complex.

Trevecca is the No. 4 seed in the 2022 Great Midwest Championships, they face the No. 5 seed, Tiffin, Thursday at 9 AM. The University of Findlay (Ohio) is the host.

HOW IT HAPPENED

GAME ONE:

The Trojans came out swinging in the first inning, as they jumped out to a 4-0 lead. Lenna Robinson hit an RBI single that brought in Anna Bennett for the score. Carly Sperlich extended the Trojan's lead with a three-run home run, her third of the season, to make it 4-0. The Trojans kept rolling in the second inning. Malone Thrift and Anna Bennett both hit solo home runs to extend the Trojan's lead to 6-0. Then in the third inning, Carly Sperlich hit a two-RBI double, which brought in Lenna Robinson and Alyssa Triner. It was followed by Gracie Kirby, who hit an RBI single to bring Sperlich in to make it 9-0. On the other side of play, Ashlan Sensing kept Ursuline at bay, as she limited their hits to only three the entire game while not allowing a single run. 

GAME TWO:

Game two was a shallow scoring game with neither team able to get many hits. The Trojans started strong in the first inning, as they got out to an early 3-0 lead. Kendall Andrews hit an RBI triple into right-center field, bringing Anna Bennett to get the Trojans on the board. Then Gracie Kirby hit an RBI single into center field, bringing Andrews. Kirby would be brought home by a sacrifice fly out by Jaylah Edmondson to make it 3-0. Following the first inning, neither team could capitalize on their hits. Ursuline broke through in the seventh inning and scored a run with two outs to make it 3-1. But the rally would fall short. 

CIRCLE AND BOX NOTES- GAME ONE:

• Anna Bennett went 1-2 with a home run, an RBI, and two runs scored.
• Carly Sperlich went 2-3 with a home run, a double, five RBIs, and two runs scored.
• Lenna Robinson went 2-2 with an RBI.
• Ashlan Sensing (15-7) pitched a complete game and did not allow a run on three hits while striking out four batters.

CIRCLE AND BOX NOTES- GAME TWO

• Kendall Andrews went 1-3 with a triple, an RBI, and one run scored.
• Gracie Kirby went 1-3 with an RBI and one run scored.
• Jaylah Edmondson went 2-2 with an RBI.
• Alex Behnke (7-4) pitched seven innings and allowed one run on only six hits while striking out eight batters.

The Trojans will go on the road to take part in the 2022 Great Midwest Athletic Conference Championships (Tournament Home Page) in Findlay, Ohio, May 5-7.
