Trevecca Baseball | Bryant, Odom Hit Three Home Runs In Split of Double-Header

TIFFIN, Ohio – No. 8 (NCBWA) / No. 13 (Collegiate Baseball Newspaper) Trevecca Nazarene University baseball (31-10, 16-8 Great Midwest) split its doubleheader at Tiffin University (22-15, 17-5 Great Midwest), falling 8-5 in game one (seven innings) and winning 21-4 in game two. The series loss against Tiffin is the first Great Midwest series loss in the Chase Sain era, with the last G-MAC series loss coming at Hillsdale on April 26-27, 2019. The 21 runs scored in game two marks the third time this season the Trojans have scored 20 or more runs in a game.

SERIES HISTORY/NOTES

The Trojans have the all-time series lead 6-4. The Trojans won four out of five meetings last season, including the championship game at the Great Midwest Championship.

HOW IT HAPPENED

GAME ONE: 

The Trojans got their offense going early, and jumped out to a 5-0 lead after the second inning. In the first inning, Bryant Goolsby hit a double driving in Braden Odom. In the second inning, Jordan Jackson hit a double driving in Logan West. Later in the inning, Braden Odom and Jordan Jackson scored on an error by Tiffin. Then Roland Ryan advanced to third base and then home on a throwing error by Tiffin for the 5-0 score. However, it would be all Tiffin from then on. Tiffin scored six runs on five hits in the fifth inning to take the lead. They extended their lead in the sixth inning with two more runs.  

GAME TWO: 

The Trojans got things going early again in game two. TNU jumped out to a 2-0 lead on a Bryant Goolsby two-run home run, his ninth of the season, to give the Trojans the lead. Tiffin got on the board in the bottom of the second, but the Trojan's offense hit its stride in the third with six more runs. Braden Odom hit a solo home run, his 15th of the season. Then Henry Mosley hit a grand slam, his ninth home run of the season, to make it 7-1. Paxton Hughes rounded out the inning with a solo home run to make it 8-1.

Tiffin made it 8-4 after the fifth inning. The Trojans added four more runs in the sixth inning. Braden Odom hit his second home run of the game, a two-run shot to make it 10-4. Then Bryant Goolsby hit his second home run of the day, another two-run shot to make it 12-4. The Trojans added three more runs to extend their lead in the seventh inning, highlighted by Braden Odom's third home run of the game, which made it 15-4. The Trojans continued adding to their lead with six runs combined in the eighth and ninth innings, highlighted by Bryant Goolsby's third home run of the game to make it 21-4.

  • Bryant Goolsby went 4-5 with three home runs, five RBIs, and five runs scored.
  • Braden Odom went 4-4 with three home runs, six RBIs, and three runs scored.
  • Paxton Hughes went 3-6 with a home run, two RBIs, and three runs scored.
  • Brooks Helton (5-0) picked up the win in relief, going 3.1 innings allowing just two hits and a walk while striking out five.

On Tuesday, the Trojans visit Lincoln Memorial (24-15) for a single game starting at 3:00 PM.
