Trevecca Baseball | Tiffin Sweeps Trojans in Friday's Doubleheader; Finish Series Saturday

TIFFIN, Ohio– No. 8 (NCBWA) / No. 13 (Collegiate Baseball Newspaper) Trevecca Nazarene University baseball (30-9, 15-7 Great Midwest) lost a pair of games at Tiffin University (21-14, 16-4 Great Midwest) on Friday, falling 21-8 in game one and 19-4 (seven innings) in game two.

SERIES HISTORY/NOTES

The Trojans have the all-time series lead 5-3. The Trojans won four out of five meetings last season, including the Great Midwest Championship game.

HOW IT HAPPENED

GAME ONE:

Tiffin took charge early in the game, scoring four runs in the second inning. The Trojans could not get going offensively for the first half of the game, and Tiffin took advantage. Tiffin would extend their lead to 15-0 at the end of the fifth inning. However, in the sixth inning, the Trojans got going. Andru Becker was brought home on a double by Bryant Goolsby to get the Trojans on the board. Later in the inning, Zeke Lecomte hit a sacrifice fly out to bring in Goolsby for the score. In the eighth inning, Bryant Goolsby hit a solo home run, his eighth of the season and third in his last three games, to add to the Trojan's run total. However, Tiffin put the game out of reach in the bottom of the eighth as they extended their lead. The Trojans went on a run in the ninth inning as they scored five more runs. Roland Ryan hit a single that brought in Shawn Wallwork for the score. Then, Braden Odom hit a three-run home run, his 14th season, scoring Roland Ryan and Jordan Jackson. Finally, Zeke Lecomte hit a single that scored Bryant Goolsby. But the run fell short for the Trojans.

GAME TWO:

Tiffin continued their momentum into game two as they jumped out to a 1-0 lead after the first inning. In the second inning, the Trojans responded with a run of their own. Henry Mosley hit a solo home run into right field, his eighth of the season. Tiffin responded with four runs to take the lead back. Then in the third inning, the Trojans clawed away at their deficit. Shawn Wallwork scored on a throwing error by Tiffin. Then Braden Odom hit his second home run of the day and 15th of the season to cut the deficit to 5-4. However, Tiffin would add 14 more runs in the fourth and fifth, and sixth innings to make it 19-4.
