WINTER HAVEN, Fla.– The Trevecca Nazarene University softball team (11-6) swept day three of the PFX Spring Games. They defeated the College of Saint Rose (1-7) 4-2 and topped the University of Mary (1-16) 9-1 in game two.

HOW IT HAPPENED

GAME ONE: College of Saint Rose

Coming off of a win last night, the Trojans continued their superb hitting in the first inning. Lenna Robinson, who hit a leadoff single and stole second base after that, was brought in on a throwing error. Later in the inning, Malone Thrift scored on a ground out by Ashlan Sensing to give the Trojans a 2-0 lead. The Trojans continued the scoring in the third inning when Azaria Jones hit a solo home run down the right-field line. Then with one out, Lenna Robinson stole home on an error by the catcher. Anna Bennett also stole second base on that play leading to the error. The College of Saint Rose attempted to rally in the fifth inning, as they scored two runs to cut the deficit to 4-2. But Trojan pitcher Ashlan Sensing would not allow another run on her way to a complete game.

GAME TWO- University of Mary

The University of Mary would strike first in game two of the day as they took a 1-0 lead in the second inning. From then on, it was all Trojans. In the third inning with two out, Lenna Robinson was brought home on a single by Anna Bennett to tie the game. Later in the inning, Alyssa Triner and Anna Bennett were brought home by a Gracie Kirby single to take the 3-1 lead. Carly Sperlich scored on a Kaylee Adams single to round out the third inning scoring. In the fifth inning, the scoring picked back up for the Trojans as Lenna Robinson hit a single that brought in Kendall Andrews. Malone Thrift followed that up with a double into right-center field, bringing Lenna Robinson and Catie McLachlan. Carly Sperlich ended the game in the sixth inning when she hit a two-run home run to give the Trojans a 9-1 run-rule win.

CIRCLE AND BOX NOTES

GAME ONE: College of Saint Rose

• Azaria Jones went 1-3 with a home run with one run scored
• Lenna Robinson went 2-4 with two runs scored
• Ashlan Sensing (5-3) pitched a complete game, allowing only two runs on four hits while striking out six batters.

GAME TWO: University of Mary

• Carly Sperlich went 1-2 with a home run, two RBIs, and two runs scored.
• Gracie Kirby went 1-3 with two RBI's
• Alex Behnke (3-2) pitched all six innings and allowed only one run on five hits while striking out one batter.

UP NEXT

On Thursday, the Trojans continue PFX Spring Games play. The first of two games are against Ferris State University (8-6), and game two is against Saint Cloud State University (7-7). 

The Trojans play their first home game on campus Saturday, March 19. It is their Great Midwest conference opener versus the Kentucky Wesleyan College Panthers.
