Trevecca Baseball | Trojans Split Friday's Double-Header With Chargers

NASHVILLE – No. 5 (NCBWA) Trevecca Nazarene University baseball team (21-5, 7-3 Great Midwest) split Friday's doubleheader against Hillsdale College (11-13, 5-5 Great Midwest), 12- 8 in game one, and fell 9-0 in game two (seven innings), at Jackson Field.

Hillsdale leads the all-time series 8-6. The Trojans won the only meeting last season 9-1.

HOW IT HAPPENED

GAME ONE:

The Trojans got out to a solid start as they went up 5-0 at the end of the second inning. David Milam hit a single that brought in Jordan Jackson for the score. Logan West followed that with a bunt in which Zeke Lecomte scored on a throwing error. Then Shawn Wallwork singled to bring in David Milam to make it 3-0. Logan West scored on an error by Hillsdale's right fielder. Lastly, Shawn Wallwork was brought home on a single by Roland Ryan. In the third and fourth innings, Hillsdale got their offense going as they cut their deficit to 5-4. The Trojans got a run back in the bottom of the fourth inning to extend their lead. But Hillsdale cut the deficit back down to one in the fifth inning. Then in the sixth inning, the Trojans extended their lead again. Shawn Wallwork hit another single that brought in Henry Mosley for the score. Then Braden Odom hit a two-run home run to make it 9-5. Roland Ryan rounded out the sixth inning, scoring on a fly-out with a run. The Trojans added two more runs in the eighth inning to make it 12-5. Hillsdale attempted to rally late, but the deficit was too large.

GAME TWO:

In-game two, Hillsdale continued the momentum they gained in the ninth inning of game one as they jumped out to an early 3-0 lead. Then in the second inning, Hillsdale increased their lead by four more runs to make it 7-0. In the bottom of the second, Zeke Lecomte hit a single that advanced Andru Becker to third base, but the Trojans could not capitalize even after loading the bases. In the third inning, Jordan Jackson hit a single and advanced to second while Roland Ryan advanced to third on a throwing error, but again were unable to score. In the seventh inning, Hillsdale put the game out of reach with two more runs to make it 9-0.

Shawn Wallwork went 2-3 with two RBIs and three runs scored
Braden Odom went 2-4 with a home run, three RBIs, and two runs scored
David Milam went 2-4 with a double, an RBI, and one run scored
Justin Campbell (6-1) pitched five innings and allowed five runs on eight hits while striking out two batters
