Trevecca Women's Basketball | Trojans Best Storm on Senior Day

NASHVILLE – The Trevecca Nazarene University women's basketball team (5-22, 4-17 Great Midwest) defeated Lake Erie College (2-26, 1-21 Great Midwest) 78-73 on Senior Day in Trojan Fieldhouse on Saturday. 

THE SERIES

The Trojans have now won six straight games over the Storm and hold a 6-1 advantage in the all-time series.

HOW IT HAPPENED

Despite falling in a 7-2 hole early and trailing for most of the opening frame, the Trojans fought their way back into the game. Closing the quarter on a 13-2 run and behind eight first-quarter points from Keeley Carter, the Trojans led 27-20 after the first ten minutes.

Picking up on their momentum from the first quarter, the Trojans built upon their lead in the second. Carter continued her hot shooting by adding 10 points in the second to help the Trojans to a 16-point, 52-36 halftime lead. 

The second half saw the Trojans cool off from the field, scoring 13 points in each of the final two quarters. A late push from the Storm made the final minutes close, but the Trojans with a pair of made free throws to seal the five-point win.

THE PLAYER

Keeley Carter finished the day with a team-high 25 points on 8-18 shooting from the floor and was 8-10 from the free-throw line.

THE TEAM

The Trojans shot 43.5% (27-62) from the field, 55% (11-20) from three, and were 61.9% (13-21).

SEASON NOTES

Keeley Carter led the team in scoring at 17.7 points per game. Emma Palmer (11.6) and Bayleigh Carmichel (10.0) also scored in double figures. Carter scored 424 points over her 24 games played.

Emma Palmer led the team shooting from the field at 52.2% and Kor Fornesa Liu followed closely at 50.5%. Keeley Carter shot 48.9% from the field.

Grace Baird led the team shooting from three-point range (38.3%) and Bayleigh Carmichel joined her shooting about 30%, hitting 31.4% from deep. Keeley Carter stroked a 79.9 clip from the foul line, hitting 111 of 139 at the stripe. Emma Palmer shot 74.2% from the line, hitting 49 of 66.

Keeley Carter led the team in rebounding, grabbing 6.3 rebounds per game while Emma Palmer averaged 6.0 rebounds per game. Carter also led the team in assists (3.8 APG), steals (1.6 SPG), and blocks (18).

Keeley Carter finished second in the Great Midwest in scoring (17.7). The sophomore placed fourth in assists (3.8), sixth in free throw percentage (79.9), eighth in blocks (18). The multi-tool player finished ninth in steals (1.6) and assist/turnover margin (1.1). Carter was eleventh in rebounding (6.3) and field goal percentage (48.9).

Carter scored 20 or more 13 times. She came up short of double figures only twice, and in those two games, she scored nine points. She had three double-doubles on the season and threatened a triple-double in three of her final five games this season.

Carter is already making noise as one of the best to play in the Purple and White. Carter is well on her way to becoming the third Trojan in the NCAA era to reach 1000 career points. In fact, she is already No. 10 on the all-time NCAA era scoring list with 621 career points. If she keeps pace with her points per game (17.3) now, she will become the NCAA leader in points per game average. Her field goal percentage average is near the best in the NCAA era. She is already fifth on the career made free throw list. Her free throw percentage is on pace to be the best in the NCAA era. Her rebound average (6.8) would place her first on the NCAA era list. She's already in the top 10 on the assists (127) and blocks (26) list.  

Over her final 14 games this season (in conference), Carter averaged 20 points and 6.6 rebounds while shooting 49% from the field, 39% from three-point range, and 81% from the charity stripe. Her assist average was 4.1 per game and she added 1.8 steals and one block per game.

Emma Palmer finished thirteenth in rebounding (6.0) and Bayleigh Carmichel finished ninth in three-point percentage (31.4). Palmer had four 20-point games. She produced a double-double three times.

With the season coming to an end, this concludes the sixth season for coach Chad Hibdon at the helm of the program and he is now 49-99 overall and 39-70 in Great Midwest play.
