Trevecca Softball | Trojans Take Two on Day Two of 2022 Music City Invitational

SMYRNA, Tenn. – The second day of the 2022 Music City Invitational saw the Trevecca Nazarene University softball team (5-3) sweep a pair of games at Cedar Stone Park to continue a busy weekend of softball on Saturday afternoon.

In game one, the Trojans defeated Rockhurst University (2-2) 9-6, before finishing off McKendree University (1-1) 10-9, in game two.

SERIES HISTORY/NOTES

Trevecca is now 2-1 all-time against Rockhurst University. The Trojans took the lead in the all-time series against McKendree, which is now 3-2.

HOW IT HAPPENED

GAME ONE: Rockhurst University

Rockhurst scored three runs in the first inning to take the early lead. Trevecca responded in kind with a three-run inning of their own. Two of the runs were a result of a walk with bases loaded. Gracie Kirby singled in Kelsey McPeters for the Trojans' third run. Rockhurst added three runs between the third and sixth innings to take a 6-4 lead. The Trojans had an offensive explosion with five runs in the bottom of the sixth inning to take a 9-6 lead. Lenna Robinson hit a single that brought in Malone Thrift for the first score of the sixth inning for the Trojans. This was followed by a sacrifice fly off the bat of Carly Sperlich to bring in Kaylee Adams. Anna Bennett brought in Lenna Robinson on an error by Rockhurst's first baseman. Then Kendall Andrews hit a double that brought in Anna Bennett and Kelsey McPeters.

GAME TWO: McKendree University

The Trojans pounced on McKendree with a seven-run second inning. Singles by Carly Sperlich and Kelsey McPeters did the most damage as both were two-run hits. A walk, double and fielder's choice brought the other three runs home. The Bearcats slowly chipped away at the 9-0 deficit by adding two in the fourth and sixth and a five-spot in the fifth. In fact, the Bearcats had a runner on third that left early, or McKendree could've pushed ahead in the sixth. Alyssa Triner scored the game-winning run in the seventh to keep the Trojans perfect on the day.

CIRCLE AND BOX NOTES

GAME ONE: Rockhurst University

Lenna Robinson went 2-3 with three runs scored and an RBI

Kelsey McPeters went 2-2 with two runs scored and an RBI

Alex Behnke (1-2) was credited with the win, she pitched three innings while only allowing two runs on four hits and striking out two

GAME TWO: McKendree University

Kelsey McPeters finished 2-4 with four RBIs and a run scored.

Malone Thrift saw a 2-2 day go into the books with a run scored, walk, and an RBI.

Alex Behnke (2-2) picked up her second win of the day by tossing the 1.2 innings in relief.

The Trojans wrap up the Music City Invitational hosting Lindenwood University (3-1) at 1:00 PM on Sunday.
