Trevecca Softball | Trojans Split Day One at UAH Charger Chillout; Play Two Saturday

ALBERTVILLE, Ala. - The Trevecca Nazarene University softball team (1-1, 0-0 Great Midwest) lost its season opener, 9-1 (5 innings), to No. 23 University of Alabama (5-1) on the first day of the 2022 Chillout presented by Marshall County Tourism & Sports. However, Trevecca bounced back with an empathic 13-1 (5 innings) over Miles College (0-2).

SERIES HISTORY

The Trojans are 2-2 against UAH since 2020.

Trevecca is 3-0 versus the Miles Bears since 2014. Today's win is the first meeting for the two schools since 2015. 

HOW IT HAPPENED

GAME ONE: Alabama Huntsville

The No. 23 University of Alabama Huntsville hitters were on a doubles binge with seven in the game.  

 The Chargers scored in the bottom of the first to take the lead and scored in each of the five innings. The Chargers led 4-0 before TNU scored its run in the top half of the fifth. Lenna Robinson doubled down the left-field line in the fifth, driving in Megan Walker for the Trojan's lone run. 

GAME TWO: Miles College

The Trojans turned the offense on in the bottom of the first, scoring 11 runs. Newcomer Kendall Andrews topped the inning off with a three-run homer. In all, Andrews had two hits in the inning and four RBI. She drove in the games first run with a single, driving in Megan Walker. Trevecca had seven hits in the inning, four walks, and four stolen bases in the first inning. Trevecca added a run in the next two innings and Miles added their run in the fifth.

CIRCLE AND BOX NOTES

GAME ONE: Alabama Huntsville

Trevecca left five runners on base, including leaving Lenna Robinson and Carly Sperlich at second and third with one out. 

The Trojans collected just three hits and drew three walks. 

Layton Murphy (2-1) tossed the complete game in the circle for UAH, and she allowed just three hits and the one run while striking out four.

Alex Behnke (0-1) started and took the loss for the Trojans. 

GAME TWO: Miles College

For the game, seven different Trojan produced a hit, but only one Trojan had more than one hit, that was Kendall Andrews who had both hits in the bottom of the first. Andrews went 2-2 with four RBI, two runs scored, and a three-run bomb in the first. 

Alyssa Triner and Lauren Moore each produced a double. Trevecca had 

Ashlan Sensing (1-0) picked up the win in her first start for the Trojans. Sensing pitched three innings and didn't allow a hit or run or walk while striking out six. 

UP NEXT

Trevecca plays two more in the Charger Chillout on Saturday.

First, at 10:30 AM, Trevecca takes on. Delta State University (2-3). 

Trevecca is 2-1 versus DSU since 2014. The teams last met at the Charger Chillout in 2019. 

The final game for Trevecca at the Charger Chillout is at 1:00 PM vs No. 12 University of Indianapolis (0-0).

UIndy owns a 5-2 edge in the all-time series, winning the last three meetings. The last Trojan win came in the 2016 NCAA D2 Midwest Region at Indianapolis. Trevecca's first win came in the first meeting in the series in 2014. That meeting took place at the Charger Chillout.
