Box Score NASHVILLE – The Trevecca Nazarene University men's basketball team (1-1) fell to Grand Valley State University (1-1) 82-55 at the Robert Garrett Classic on the Hill on Saturday afternoon.
THE SERIES
This was the first-ever meeting between the two teams, with the Lakers now having the 1-0 series lead.
THE MATCH
The Trojans started the first half with two three-pointers, which Grand Valley State would match. The game had three lead changes in the first six minutes, after which Grand Valley State would pull ahead. The Trojans trailed by as much as 14 points when they were down 37-23 with 5:36 left in the half. But the Trojans roared back to score 12 straight points to go into half only down 37-35. The 12-0 run was led by seven points by Caleb Terry and five points by Peter Lambesis.
Grand Valley State took back the lead as they scored the first nine points of the second half. Following a few Trojan baskets, the Lakers continued to build their lead with a strong run that put the game out of reach.
TEAM STATS BREAKDOWN
The Trojans shot 41.7% (20-48) from the floor, 30.8% (8-26) from three-point range, and 77.8% (7-9) from the free-throw line.
PLAYER BREAKDOWN
Jake Mulder led the Trojans with 10 points and two rebounds. Caleb Terry added nine points and eight rebounds. Lawrence Brazil III had eight points and two rebounds.
UP NEXT
The Trojans will go on the road for the first time this season and will take on Shorter University (0-1) on Tuesday at 6:30 PM.
