Box Score NASHVILLE – The Trevecca Nazarene University men's basketball team (1-0) defeated Ferris State University (0-1) 70-69 at the Robert Garrett Classic on the Hill on Friday night.
THE SERIES
This was the first-ever meeting between the two teams, with the Trojans now having the 1-0 series lead.
THE MATCH
Ferris State jumped to a 9-3 lead early in the first half, but the Trojans fought back to keep the game close as they brought the score within 18-15. Caleb Terry and a three-pointer by Josh Goings cut the Trojan's deficit down to 18-15. The Trojans would fight back to make it 30-29 on a layup by Seth Thomas, but Ferris State roared back to make it 36-32 at halftime.
Ferris State controlled the early second half as they scored the first five points of the half. Ferris State had a lead of 14 points when they went up 53-39, but the Trojans kept up the pressure up as they cut their deficit to 55-51 with just under eight minutes to go after a 10-2 run led by five points by Peter Lambesis. Trevecca cut their deficit to 63-60 on a jump shot by Jose Waring late in the game. The Trojans took the lead late in the game as Peter Lambesis made a three-pointer to make it 70-69 with 10 seconds left in the game. The Trojans held on to take the game 70-69 as Ferris State could not score.
TEAM STATS BREAKDOWN
The Trojans shot 38.1% (24-63) from the floor, 33.3% (9-27) from three-point range, and 52% (13-25) from the free-throw line. The Trojans also outrebounded Ferris State 43-41.
PLAYER BREAKDOWN
Lawrence Brazil III led the Trojans with 18 points and four rebounds, and he also had three assists. Caleb Terry had 12 points and 10 rebounds, Peter Lambesis had 11 points, six rebounds, and an assist.
