Box Score NASHVILLE – The Trevecca Nazarene University volleyball team (16-10, 8-5 Great Midwest) lost in five sets to Tiffin University (12-14, 6-7 Great Midwest) 25-23, 20-25, 25-13, 21-25, 12-15 on Saturday afternoon in Trojan Fieldhouse.
THE SERIES
The Dragons earned a season split with the Trojans and hold a 6-4 advantage over Trevecca after 10 all-time meetings.
THE FLOW
The Trojans jumped on the Dragons early, taking the match's first four points before Tiffin settled in. The Dragons tied it at 6-6 before taking as much as an eight-point lead at 17-9 before the Trojans turned the tide. The Trojans used a 10-2 run to tie the match at 19-19 before finishing off the opener, 25-23.
Tiffin stormed out of the gate in the second for a 6-2 advantage that the Trojans had to figure out. The Dragons saw a four-point lead become seven at 12-5 and never let Trevecca into the set. Despite a late run by the Trojans, Tiffin commanded a 25-20 set two win.
The Trojans controlled the third set after a 4-0 run gave the hosts a 10-4 lead. The Dragons could not manage much in the way of offense in the third as the Trojans quickly closed out the set, 25-13.
Tiffin leveled the match at two sets apiece after earning eight of the set's first 11 points. The Trojans tied it at 11-11, but Tiffin was too much. In fact, the set was tied on eight different occasions before the Dragons finished off the set with back-to-back Alivia Rew kills, 25-21.
The fifth set went the Dragons' way much in part to a 4-0 run which gave the visitors an 11-8 lead. The Dragons finished off the set and match with a Taylor Peterson kill to win their second consecutive five-set match in as many days.
THE NOTES
Maddie Wilds collected a career-high 15 kills on the day, finishing the double-double off with 14 digs. Previously, Wilds' career-most kills were 14 which she connected for in a home win versus Cedarville this season. Ellie Buffler added a double-double with a match-high 16 kills with 14 digs while Emilee McDonald offered 45 assists and 15 digs. Trevecca hit .162 for the match with nine service aces and six blocks.
UP NEXT
The Trojans head to Kentucky Wesleyan (6-18, 2-11 Great Midwest) on Tuesday for a midweek game before hosting Northwood University (12-12, 6-5 Great Midwest) on Friday for Senior Day.
