Trevecca Volleyball | Nationally Recognized Ashland Holds Off Trojans

NASHVILLE – The Trevecca Nazarene University volleyball team (16-9, 8-4 Great Midwest) was swept by to (RV) Ashland University (19-6, 12-0 Great Midwest) 25-21, 25-18, 25-20 on Friday night in Trojan Fieldhouse.

THE SERIES

The Eagles improve to 4-0 all-time versus the Trojans after having swept the season series in each of the last two seasons.

THE FLOW

Trevecca stood up to the test in Ashland in the early stages of the opening set, taking an early 6-3 advantage over the Eagles. With the set tied at 10-10 the Eagles began to display their depth and attacking prowess. The largest lead Ashland could take was 19-15 before a Trevecca timeout turned things around. The Trojans pulled within one out of the break at 20-19, but the Eagles held on for the 25-21 set win.

The Eagles quickly jumped out to the early advantage in the second set and did not relent. A 7-2 advantage quickly doubled to 16-8 which Ashland maintained at 19-11. The Trojans relied a little more on the bench in the second and ultimately fell 25-18.

The third set brought yet another early Ashland lead, but the Trojans pushed back. Three straight points, aided by consecutive Maddie Wilds kills gave the Trojans an 8-6 lead. From there four points for the Eagles ensured the visitors would not trail again. Trevecca tied the third set at 10-10, but could not find themselves closer than a point from there on out. Ashland took the third, 25-20.

THE NOTES

Ellie Buffler bagged her fifth double-double of the season with a team-high 11 kills to go with 10 digs. The senior hit .118 for the match. A trio of other Trojans: Emma Green, Maddie Wilds, and Emma Titus all collected five or more kills as the Trojans collectively managed a .067% with 34 kills and 51 digs.

The Trojans finish off the weekend by hosting Tiffin University (10-14, 4-7 Great Midwest) tomorrow afternoon at 1 p.m. in Trojan Fieldhouse.
