Trevecca Volleyball | Trojans Sweep Visiting Lake Erie

NASHVILLE  The Trevecca Nazarene University volleyball team (13-6, 6-3 Great Midwest) swept Lake Erie College (2-14, 0-9 Great Midwest) in three sets (25-18, 25-16, 25-22) on Saturday afternoon in Trojan Fieldhouse. The win keeps the Trojans in the mix for postseason play. 

THE SERIES

With the win, the Trojans tied the all-time series 3-3 after six matches. The Trojans swept the season series last year.

THE FLOW

The first set was tightly knit as teams traded points and the lead early on. Then the Trojans built a 17-13 lead following an Ellie Buffler service ace and Maddie Wilds kill. They extended their lead on a 5-1 run late in the set, led by kills from Ellie Buffler, Sami Raley, and Maddie Wilds. Trevecca finished the set strong and took the set 25-18 following a late surge that ended with an advantage in kills 17-6, attacks 31-23, and digs 14-8.

The Trojans claimed the first three points of set two. Later in the set, the lead was up to 11-7 after a Sami Raley kill. Lake Erie made multiple attack errors that put them in a 16-11 deficit. Trevecca finished the second set on a 9-1 run to take set two 25-16. The run was highlighted by two consecutive Cara Maguire service aces and a Maddie Wilds kill to claim the set point.

The start of the third set was highly contested, with the set being tied at 6-6. Then the Trojans got five points in a row to build an 11-6 lead. Maddie Wilds had two kills in a row during that run. Lake Erie was forced to take a timeout following a 4-0 Trojan run that made it 18-11. Lake Erie had a late push, but the Trojans took the set 25-22.

THE NOTES

Trevecca hit .355 (17-1-31) in the first set. Emilee McDonald had 30 assists in the three-set match and added five kills, and six digs. Katie Crutchfield also added nine digs. Maddie Wilds led the team with 11 kills and a .526 attack percentage. Conference service ace leader Ellie Buffler added three more to her totals.

UP NEXT

The Trojans go on the road next week to face Malone (7-10, 4-5 Great Midwest) on Friday at 6:00. Then they face Walsh (6-7, 3-6 Great Midwest) on Saturday at 12:00 p.m.
