THE SERIES

For the 30th time, the Trojans and Panthers met with the all-time series lead now favoring Kentucky Wesleyan, 19-11. Trevecca picked up its first win in the previous six meetings last spring by handing the Panthers a four-set loss to conclude the regular season.

MATCH DETAILS

The night would not start off easy for either side as they decided to play extra volleyball. Although the NCAA changed the rule prior to the 2008 season, the Trojans and Panthers played best of 30 points in the first set. The match was tied at 7-7 and four straight points for Trevecca was the widest margin either team would enjoy in the set. Tied at 24-24, an attack error gave the Trojans the first of a combined seven set points in the opening frame. In the end, consecutive kills by Nicole Martin handed the game to the Panthers, 32-30. The set was the first played to 30 or more points by the Trojans since the 2019 season when they defeated Ohio Dominican 35-33 in the second of a three-set match in Columbus. The Trojans played a total of 10 long sets during their 2021 spring season and are an even 1-1 in sets going extra this season.

SET TWO

Except for the opening point, set two was much friendlier to the Trojans. A 3-0 run with the set tied at 3-3 created the separation the Trojans needed. From there the Trojans did not look back as they cruised to a fairly uncontested 25-17 set win.

SET THREE

In the third, the teams largely traded leads after Trevecca's 4-1 early advantage faded. After a timeout called by the Trojans at 15-15, the momentum shifted. The Panthers earned their first lead at 16-15, out of the timeout, but the Trojans rattled off a 4-0 run to put the set out of reach. Despite the Panthers keeping the set competitive by forcing six attack errors and a service error on Trevecca winning, the Trojans won, 25-21.

SET FOUR

The Trojans wasted little time flexing in the fourth. After an attack error opened the door for the Trojans' service game where they would not disappoint. Maddie Wilds collected three service aces as Trevecca jumped out to an 8-0 lead. The Trojans won 10 of the first 11 points in the set and did not look back winning the set 25-14 and the match.

Sami Raley, who leads the G-MAC in hitting percentage, led the way with a .632 (12 K, 0 E, 19 TA).

THE TEAMS

The Trojans outhit Kentucky Wesleyan .304 to .123. While the Panthers had more kills, 51-48, the Trojans made their presence known in the net, out blocking Kentucky Wesleyan 11-1.
