THE SERIES

Trevecca and the University of Arkansas-Monticello had never met before tonight's five-set affair.

Trevecca is 5-3 versus Union in the NCAA era, and 22-30 all-time. Union had won three of the last four.

MATCH ONETNU 3, Arkansas Monticello 2

The Trojans secured their third fifth set victory of the season by winning the second, third, and fifth sets. To start off, the teams traded punches for most of the first set. The Trojans created a little separation late at 20-15, but a 10-2 run gave UAM the early advantage. The second set saw the Trojans jump out to an early 7-3 lead only to see UAM to rally back to force a 10-10 tie. An attack error ended things late for UAM as the Trojans drew level at a set apiece. Despite conceding the first point of set three and struggling early, the Trojans wouldn't look back after pushing ahead at 9-8. TNU won the third, 25-17. Perhaps the quickest of the first four, the fourth set favored UAM 25-15 as the Trojans could not overcome an early 6-1 hole. Trojan Fieldhouse came to life in the fifth. Trailing 6-4, a bad set was the mistake the Trojans needed to turn the tide. The next three kills went TNU's way and UAM only managed to pull within a point after that. A kill by Ellie Buffler finished things off pushing the Trojans to 6-0 overall and matching their best start since the 2012-13 campaign.

MATCH TWO – TNU 3, Union 0

Trevecca opened with four straight points and held, at last, a two-point lead the rest of the set. Trevecca led 10-8 and closed the door with a 12-3 run. The run pushed the Trojan margin to 11 at 22-11.

The second set was close early, but Union secured the lead at 6-5 and built the lead to as much as four on several occasions. With Union leading 18-14, Trevecca eclipsed the Bulldogs 21-20 with a 7-2 run. After back-to-back sideouts for each team, the Trojans regained the lead 22-21 and closed out the win.

Union scored the first point of the third set, but Trevecca scored four straight to regain the lead. Hannah Bornemann led the run with back-to-back service aces, pushing her to five for the match.
