NASHVILLE – Trevecca Nazarene University head coach Emily Moore moves into her third season as the program's coach. Moore, who is also the Senior Woman Administrator, is ready for the fall season, "We are excited to be back in Trojan Fieldhouse this fall for a long, competitive, and complete season! It's been two years since the coaching staff and the team have participated in a true preseason; we are all shaking off the rust."
Moore reflected on how she and her team mapped out this season, "As a team, we decided this year to operationalize our values of courage and accountability. Now, our year-long commitment to each other is to Be Present and Lead Everywhere. With the experience of seven seniors on the team, we believe we have the right culture and personnel in place to capitalize on our talents and compete for one of the top spots in the G-MAC Conference."
In actuality, it is the fourth season for Moore, who served as the associate head coach for the 2018-2019 season.
The Trojans did not have a senior on last year's team that finished 6-8 and 5-6 in the Great Midwest. Like most, the team didn't field a full roster for most of their reduced spring schedule. In fact, the program has only had two seniors in the last three seasons.
The team now sports eight seniors and three juniors. One of those juniors is Ellie Buffler, the Great Midwest Freshman of the Year two years ago. Also, Austyn Baldwin is back to continue her dominance in the middle. Buffler is a multi-stat category stuffer despite leading the team in kills. Baldwin is one of the top percentage hitters in Trevecca and Great Midwest history.
While Austyn Baldwin and Ellie Buffler are returning standouts in the minds of most of our opponents, there are other Trojans now making their mark. Claire Hindman is threatening to hit 1,000 career digs. Chloee McDaniel is collecting assists at a high rate. Newcomers like Emma Titus and Morgan McMurray are likely to make an impact as freshmen. Katie Crutchfield is making a case for time at Libero and is the heir apparent to Claire Hindman.
Moore said, "For the first time in my tenure at Trevecca, we have players with significant conference playing experience. For the last three years, we were the young team with a lot of potential. Now it's time to cash in that potential for more wins this season. We have experience in every position on the floor, including Claire Hindman as the three-year starter at Libero, setters Chloee McDaniel and Hannah Bornemann, and pin hitters Madison Martin and Lydia Yonce."
As for the underclassmen, the sophomores demonstrated tremendous resilience last year as they experienced massive interruptions and setbacks in their first year. Now, with our new freshmen, this entire group of underclassmen is ready to grind it out in the preseason and hit the ground running come September.
The team opens its 30-match schedule with four matches at the UAH Charger Classic September 3-4. Then, the Trojans host the Ray Thrasher Classic September 10-11, making their home debut with four matches in two days.
After those eight matches, the team opens Great Midwest play at Ohio Dominican (September 17) and Cedarville (September 18).
The home conference slate starts September 24 when Findlay visits a day ahead of Hillsdale.
