Trevecca Softball | Trojans Season Ends at NCAA Midwest Regional

ALLENDALE, Mich. – The Trevecca Nazarene University softball team (27-14) lost their second game of the day at the 2021 NCAA Midwest Regional, ending their run in the region tournament and an end to their season. The Trojans, who defeated Hillsdale College during yesterday's opening round, lost 4-0 to top-seed and No. 13 Grand Valley State University (42-7) this morning and sixth-seed Ohio Dominican University (30-17), 2-0, this afternoon.

HOW IT HAPPENED

Braxton Downs did the damage for the Panthers, going 2-3 with a run scored, two RBI, and a solo homerun. Downs drove in the winning run in the third with a double. In the sixth, Downs drove a pitch out of the park for the 2-0 final.

The biggest threat for the Trojans came in the seventh. With two outs Kelsey Seitz singled and Malone Thrift reached on a hit by pitch. Matti Byrd appeared to reach on a single but was ruled out at first to end the game.   

CIRCLE AND BOX NOTES

Kelsey Seitz reached twice with a single each time. Trevecca left six on base putting seven on base with four hits, two walks, and a hit-by-pitch.

Alex Behnke (11-3) pitched well in the start. She pitched five innings allowing five hits and two runs.

SERIES HISTORY

Trevecca is 10-5 all-time vs ODU, 2-2 this season. The Panthers have won the last two meetings, both in the postseason. The first win came in the Great Midwest tournament title game, 4-1.

TREVECCA NCAA REGION HISTORY

2016 – Trevecca entered as the eighth seed and update top-seeded UIndy and then Grand Valley. Trevecca advanced to the finals.

2015 – Trevecca became the first Great Midwest team to get an NCAA region bid, win an NCAA region game, and reach the region finals.
