Trevecca Baseball | Trojans Win Two in Battle of Great Midwest's Top Two Teams

NASHVILLE –The Trevecca Nazarene University baseball team (24-8, 19-3 Great Midwest) took two from Great Midwest Athletic Conference foe Kentucky Wesleyan College (19-11, 16-6 Great Midwest) on Friday at Jackson Field.

In a battle of the Great Midwest top two teams, the Trojans edged the Panthers twice heading into Saturday's doubleheader finale.

HOW IT HAPPENED

GM 1

Trevecca scored two in the first and another run in the second for a 3-0 lead. KWC and TNU both scored two runs in the third for a 5-2 Trojan lead. The Panthers scored three in the fourth, tying the game 5-5. The Panthers eased a run across in the sixth for a 6-5 lead. The Trojans responded quickly and emphatically with a five-run bottom of the sixth for a 10-6 lead, adding a single run in the seventh for an 11-6 final.  

GM 2

Trevecca opened the bottom of the first with two runs and added one in the second to complete the scoring for game two. Ethan Harrison singled to drive in Shawn Wallwork and Braden Odom in the first. Jordan Jackson hit a sac fly in the second, driving in Joseph McNamee.

STATS REPORT

GM 1

Bryant Goolsby went 3-5 with two runs scored, two home runs, six RBI, and a double. Also with two hits were Braden Odom, Ethan Harrison, and Joseph McNamee. Harrison drove in two runs and had a double. McNamee hit a double.

Drew Pierce started but did not figure into the decision. Tyler Koprowski (2-3) came in relief and pitched 2.1 innings allowing one run and striking out three for the win. Tiger Cox (2) pitched three shutout innings with three strikeouts for the save.

GM 2

Alex Clouthier (3-1) pitched the first complete game and first shutout of the year for the Trojan pitching staff. Clouthier allowed four hits and struck out two.

WHAT'S NEXT

The Trevecca baseball team will honor the memory of Brad Stuart between games of the Saturday doubleheader. Lynnette Stuart, Brad's wife, and their three daughters will join the team on the field to honor Brad's memory. Brad Stuart, a Trevecca Hall of Famer and former All-American passed away in an auto accident in January.

Trevecca head coach Chase Sain welcomes former students and teammates of Brad to join the team in honoring his wonderful life on Saturday.

Trevecca concludes their regular season schedule with a pair of doubleheaders next weekend at Cedarville University.
