Trevecca Baseball | Trojans Sweep Malone, Open Great Midwest 4-0

CANTON, Ohio - The Trevecca Nazarene University baseball team (8-2, 4-0 Great Midwest) hit the road for the first time, playing their Great Midwest Athletic Conference opener at Malone University (7-8, 2-6 Great Midwest). The Trojans won both games of the doubleheader on Saturday and on Sunday for a four-game sweep. Trevecca topped Malone 17-2 and 6-3 on Sunday. Saturday, the Trojans beat the Pioneers 6-4 and 5-1.

Malone's home field is under construction, so the teams played two on Saturday at nearby Thurman Munson Memorial Stadium. On Sunday, the teams played a pair at Minerva (Ohio) High School.

SERIES HISTORY/NOTES

Trevecca leads the series 12-3 and have won eight in a row now in the series.

HOW IT HAPPENED

GM 1
Trevecca scored four in the second, but Malone answered with two of their own in the bottom of the inning for a 4-2 Trojan lead.

Trevecca rolled off 13 unanswered runs for a 17-2 win in the seven-inning game.

Five Trojans produced multi-hit games and six extra-base hits.   

Chase Haley started and picked up the win while four Trojans pitched off the mound in the win.
GM 2 
Trevecca collected 13 hits on their way to six runs.

The Trojans scored two in the top of the first and never trailed.

Trevecca led 4-0 before Malone scored a run in the sixth, but Trevecca added two in the seventh for a 6-1 lead. Malone added two in the ninth.  

STATS REPORT

GM 1
Jordan Jackson and Trey Vanderpool did their share at the plate. Jackson went 4-4 with four runs scored, three RBI, a double, a home run, and a stolen base. Vanderpool went 3-4 with four runs scored, seven RBI, a walk, a triple, and two home runs. Chase Haley (2-0) pitched five in the start and sat down six on strikes.

GM 2

Shawn Wallwork went 5-5 with a run scored, three doubles, and an RBI. Zeke Lecomte when t 3-4 with three RBI.

Alex Cloutheir (1-1) got the win in the start and lasted eight innings giving up seven this and two earned runs with three strikeouts. Dalton Heath pitched an inning of relief to get his first save.

WHAT'S NEXT

Trevecca returns to Jackson Field for a non-conference contest with Lincoln Memorial University on March 23 at 3 PM.  Then Ohio Dominican University (10-2, 2-2 Great Midwest), one of the top Great Midwest programs the last three years, visits Jackson Field March 25-26 for a key four-game series.

In the NCAA Era, Trevecca and LMU are tied 2-2 in the series. The Railsplitters won the last meeting handily, but the three previous games were all one-run decisions.

The Ohio Dominican series with Trevecca leans in the Trojans favor, 7-2. The Panthers have won two of the last three.
