Box Score 2 HUNTSVILLE – Tenth-ranked Trevecca Nazarene University softball (0-2) lost a pair of games at the 2021 Charger Chillout. The preseason Great Midwest pick fell 8-5 to Delta State University (2-0) in the opener and 16-8 to No. 20 University of Alabama Huntsville (2-0). The Trojans play two more tomorrow at Metro Kiwanis Sportsplex.

HOW IT HAPPENED
GAME 1: Delta State University:
- Delta State used a solo home run in the top of the first, taking a 1-0 lead.
- Brooke Eakes leveled the score in the Trojan half of the first with an RBI triple.
- The Statesmen regained their lead, making it 4-1 in the top of the second, powered by a three-run home run.
- DSU pulled ahead 5-1 with a single run in the third.
- TNU's Anna Bennett drew a bases-loaded walk, scoring Abbie Page, for a 5-2 score.
- A three-run sixth pushed the Delta State advantage to 8-2.
- Trevecca made it 8-5 in the bottom of the sixth on an RBI double by Matti Byrd and a sac-fly by Sydney McCormack, and an RBI-double by MaKray Odom.
- A two-run seventh for the Statesmen made it 10-5.
GAME 2: No. 20 Alabama Huntsville:
- In the top of the first, Lenna Robinson reached first on a throwing error and later scored on a SAC bunt; MaKray Odom scored on a throwing error - putting the Trojans up 2 - 0
- Shelby Booker singled to second base, scoring Reagan Malone. Kaylee Vaught lined out to right, scoring Kiara Akles to level the score at 2-2 after one.
- Trevecca pushed ahead again in the second when Sydney McCormick doubled to left field, driving in Malone Thrift and Matti Byrd, Trevecca led 4 - 2
- Trevecca added to their lead with a three-run third. Anna Bennett grounded out to short, scoring Brooke Eakes. Malone Thrift followed with a two-run homer (Matti Byrd scored) for a 7 - 2 Trojan lead.
- UAH made it 7-5 in the third following Alaina Hampton's doubled to left-center, driving in Mackenzie Nutt and Shelby Booker.
- In the fourth. Brooke Eakes singled to left field, scoring Megan Walker scored for an 8-4 TNU lead.
- The 12-run fifth for the Chargers started with Kaylee Vaught hitting a two-run homer. A Lila Young single drove in Gracie Green scored. Back-to-back bases-loaded walks to Shelby Booker and Kiara Akles put the Chargers us 9-8. Three singles and another bases-loaded walk forced the run-rule into effect.
CIRCLE AND BOX NOTES
GAME 1: Delta State University
- Olivia Burns (1-2) picked up the complete-game win. She allowed the five runs on eight Trojan hits with six strikeouts over seven innings.
- Anna Bennett (0-1) allowed seven runs on eight DSU hits over three innings of work.
- MaKray Odom went 4-4 in the box with a run, RBI, a stolen base, and a double.
GAME 2: No. 20 Alabama Huntsville:
- Grace O'Berry (1-0) gained the win with 1.2 innings pitched, allowing a walk and striking out one for UAH.
- Raygn Hall (0-1) took the loss in relief, allowing four earned runs on two hits and two walks.
- Brooke Eakes went 2-3 with a run, RBI, a stolen base, and double.
- Malone Thrift went 1-3 with two runs, two RBI, and a home run.
WHAT'S NEXT
Trevecca's games at the Charger Chillout on Saturday have moved up an hour. Trevecca faces No. 6 Young Harris College (2-0) at 10:00 AM and Harding University (2-0) at 1:00 PM.
Trevecca is scheduled to play in the Blue Bridge Classic in Owensboro, Ky. February 12-13. The home schedule begins on March 3 when Union University visits.
