Box Score NASHVILLE, TENN - Playing its first game since February 15, the Trevecca Nazarene University women's basketball team (5-5, 5-5 Great Midwest) got off to a fast start Friday afternoon against the Ursuline College Arrows (9-11, 9-11 Great Midwest), but when the final buzzer sounded, it was Ursuline that emerged with a 91-88 victory at Trojan Fieldhouse. The loss snapped a two-game winning streak for the Trojans, who had three straight Great Midwest Conference games postponed before Friday's contest.

HOW IT HAPPENED
Trevecca came out firing, scoring nine of the game's first 11 points and building a 16-4 advantage less than four minutes into the contest. However, Ursuline didn't panic, scoring 11 straight points of its own to close to within 16-15 with 3:54 to go in the first quarter. The Arrows tied the game at 22 before Trevecca scored the final three points of the period to lead, 25-22, after one quarter.
Trevecca extended its lead to as much as seven points in the second quarter, but Ursuline fought back again and took a 44-42 lead on a 3-pointer by Alyssa Evans with 32 seconds to go before halftime and the Arrows would take that two-point lead into the locker room.
The third quarter was a tight affair, with Olivia Pepperman's free throw tying the game at 55 with 5:45 to go in the period. The Trojans extended their lead to five points at 65-60 on a three-pointer by Kaitlynn Wilks with 3:23 showing on the clock. However, Ursuline closed the quarter with a 10-4 burst to lead 70-69 going into the fourth period.
There were four ties in the final quarter - the last time coming at 78-78 with 5:01 remaining - before Ursuline put together an 8-0 burst over a span of 2:30 to open up an 86-78 advantage. Trevecca lead scorer Keeley Carter fouled out in the fourth quarter with 13 points, taking away the Trojans' main scoring threat in crucial situations.
The Trojans made a comeback of their own and closed to within 89-88 on a 3-pointer by Haley Vesey with 22 seconds left. Evans was fouled with nine seconds to go and made both free throws to give Ursuline a 91-88 lead. Trevecca had a final shot to tie the game, but Vesey's 3-pointer was off the mark and the Arrows were able to emerge with the hard-fought victory

Pepperman led Trevecca with 18 points (on 7-of-15 shooting), six assists, four rebounds and two steals. Samantha Whiteman hit eight of her 13 shots from the field to finish with 16 points, four rebounds and three assists and Carter also hit double digits with 13 points, seven assists and four boards. The Trojans also had a pair of reserves reach double figures, as Grace Baird tossed in a career high 12 (on 5-of-7 shooting) and four rebounds and Vesey chipped in 11 while grabbing six rebounds. Wilks (nine points, seven rebounds) and Faith Wilken (seven points, six rebounds, two steals) also had solid games for Trevecca.
Morgan Mattimore led Ursuline with a career high 34 points (on 14-of-22 shooting, including 5-for-6 from 3-point range) and four rebounds. Alyssa Evans had 18 points and eight assists, Madison Cloonan had a double-double with 14 points and 12 rebounds and Bekah Green had 13 for the Arrows

Trevecca made 35 of its 69 shots overall (50.7 percent), but made just 6 of its 22 shots from 3-point range (27.3 percent). The Trojans drained 12 of their 13 free-throw attempts (92.3 percent) and won the rebound battle, 40-31. Trevecca also handed out 18 assists (to Ursuline's 16) and made seven steals (to the Arrows' six).
Ursuline was 33-for-65 (50.8 percent) overall and made 10 of its 26 three-point attempts (38.5 percent). The Arrows went 15-for-23 (65.2 percent) from the free-throw line.
WHAT'S NEXT
Trevecca's regular season finale is on Saturday, when the Trojans host the Ohio Valley Fighting Scots. Tipoff at Trojan Fieldhouse is set for 1:30 p.m. Great Midwest tournament play begins on March 2.
