THE SERIES
The eighth all-time meeting favored the Chargers who claimed both games in 2021, taking the spring meeting 84-68 and now lead the series 5-3.
HOW IT HAPPENED
The visiting Chargers were firing on nearly all cylinders in the early going as they connected for five of their first six shots and commanded a lead 9-2. The Trojans finished the first quarter with a pair of 3-pointers and faced a 23-8 deficit.
The only quarter in which the Trojans outscored (21-18) Hillsdale was the second. Bayleigh Carmichel hit two of her five 3-pointers in the frame as the Trojans pulled within eight (34-26) after Keeley Carter made a layup with 1:47 remaining in the half. The basket was the final made by Trevecca in the period and the closest the Trojans would get the rest of the way as they trailed 41-29 at the break.
During the third quarter, the Trojans went cold from the floor, hitting just four of 13 shots. Carmichel connected for two more 3-pointers as the Trojans faced a 59-39 hole heading into the fourth quarter.
The Trojans produced three 3-pointers in their first five attempts to open the fourth, cutting it to a 62-49 contest, but the long balls were not enough. Hillsdale finished down the stretch on a 15-7 run to claim their first win in conference play.
PLAYER PERFORMANCE
Off the bench, Alex McFarlin played a team-high 30 minutes, scoring a team-most 18 points on 4-of-6 shooting from distance. Bayleigh Carmichel hit five treys for 15 points and four rebounds.
TEAM STATS
The Trojans continued to hoist up the long ball, shooting 10-34 (29.3%) from deep while stroking 22-56 (39.3%) from the field. The Chargers won the rebound battle 37-33 and committed six fewer turnovers (20-14).
