THE SERIES
The Trojans are now 4-3-2 versus Ohio Dominican. In 2019, Ohio Dominican University beat Trevecca 3-2 on penalty kicks in the Great Midwest quarterfinals.
THE MATCH
The Trojans, hosts of the Great Midwest Quarterfinals at the Trojan Soccer Complex, wanted revenge for a loss against the Ohio Dominican Panthers earlier in the season. The Trojans fell 1-0 in that game. The Panthers gave the Trojans a lot to deal with in the first half. Neither team claimed the advantage on the scoreboard, but the Panthers dominated the shot counter six to two and in shots on goal two to one.
In the second half, the Panthers continued their dominance in the shot department. That domination culminated with the first goal of the game in the 61st minute. However, Abbigail Legg scored for the Trojans just six minutes later to tie the game 1-1. The Trojan goal came off of a penalty kick after a hard foul by Ohio Dominican. Neither team scored for the rest of regulation. Ohio Dominican led the shots 14-5 and shots on goal five to three. Both picked up fouls, Trevecca fouling 10 times to the Panthers nine. Both teams received a yellow card during regulation time.
In the first overtime, both teams traded possession of the ball. Ohio Dominican registered the only shot of the first overtime just 41 seconds into the frame. The Trojans were held without a shot in the second half of overtime while Ohio Dominican got three shots.
The game went into penalty kicks. Both teams remained even through five kicks in an intense back and forth battle. As they went to bonus kicks and the teams tied 5-5 in the eighth kick, Ohio Dominican missed their chance high. Bringing Trojan goalkeeper Delayna Holman. Holman buried her attempt to give the Trojans the victory.
