THE SERIES

The Eagles joined the Great Midwest beginning with the 2021 season and won both contests.

MATCH DETAILS

In what quickly turned out to be a back and forth match the Trojans and Eagles battled to four sets on Saturday. After an Austyn Baldwin kill began things for the Trojans, the Eagles found their stride. An early 9-4 advantage forced head coach Emily Moore to use her first timeout of the set. Although the Trojans managed to pull within three (13-10) off a Chloee McDaniel kill, the Eagles finished off the opener, 25-19.

SET TWO

Struggling out the gate in set two, it was after the 6-2 lead by the Eagles that the Trojans utilized their first timeout in set two. From there the Trojans seemed to find their rhythm forcing an 8-8 tie after a 6-2 run of their own. Leading 19-16, a late 3-0 run sunk the Trojans in the second, ultimately allowing the Eagles the 25-20 set win.

SET THREE

Looking at two sets to none deficit, the Trojans would not panic. Even after facing an early 7-2 hole, the Trojans rallied to force a 14-14 tie. Neither team could gain the edge trading blows until three straight kills, by three different Trojans ended things 25-21 in favor of Trevecca.

SET FOUR

Despite its early stages looking like the Trojans had control of the momentum, Trevecca's early 7-3 was erased. With the set tied at 9-9, the teams found energy from one another. The fourth set saw a match-high 17 ties and five lead changes on its way to being the most exciting finish. In the end, a total of four set points were played with the Trojans holding two opportunities to force a decisive fifth set at 26-25 and 27-26. A timely service ace and then a kill allowed the Eagles to close off the fourth set, 29-27 for the win.
