Box Score ROLLA, Mo.– Trevecca Nazarene University men's basketball (1-0) won their season opener, defeating Missouri S&T (0-1) on the road at the Miner Classic. The Trojans were paced by four Trojans in double figures and dominating the boards 45-34.

Trevecca won for the first time in the series. The Miners lead the series 2-1.
HOW IT HAPPENED
Trevecca led by as many as 22 and had an 8-0 run in the second half. Trevecca led for more than 35 minutes.
After the teams exchanged the lead early, the Trojans took the lead (8-7) for good when Brendan Newton dunked with 14:54 to go in the first half. The Trojans put some distance between them and the Miners with a 9-2 run and led 15-9 with 12:00 on the first-half clock. The largest first-half lead for Trevecca was seven points on a few cases late in the first half. With 3:09 to go in the half, the Trojans led 37-30. Trevecca led 42-37 at the half.
Trevecca extended its lead early in the second half. With 17:16 left in the game, Trevecca's led had been reduced to four (44-40). The Trojans gained separation with a 26-8 run and established a 22-point (70-48) edge. The Miners returned the favor and cut the Trojan lead to five (72-67) with 2:05 remaining on a 19-2 run. The Trojans responded and built the led back to nine before settling on a seven-point victory.
PLAYER STATS BREAKDOWN
CJ Penha, in his Trojan debut, led the team with 25 points and nine rebounds. Penha shot 8-14 from the field and 7-9 and the line.
Chris Rogers just missed a double-double scoring nine and grabbing eight rebounds. He dished out five assists.
Jaylon Tharpe scored 15 and grabbed seven rebounds.
Miguel Williams also shined with eight points and seven rebounds in his TNU debut.
Also scoring in double figures were Brendan Newton (11) and Josh Price (10).
TEAM STATS BREAKDOWN
Trevecca shot 43.5% (27-62) from the field, hit 37.5% (12-32) from deep, and 72.2% (13-18) from the line.
Trevecca held the Miners to 38.8% (26-67) from the field on their homecourt. The Miners hit 25% (7-28) from three-point range and 68.4% (13-19) from the foul line.
Trevecca dominated the boards 45-34.
WHAT'S NEXT
On Saturday, Trevecca takes on Southwest Baptist University at 1 PM in Gibson Arena.
Trevecca has only played Southwest Baptist once, a 64-44 loss in 2019. Trevecca returns home Wednesday, hosting Birmingham Southern at 5:30 PM at Trojan Fieldhouse.
