Box Score NASHVILLE, Tenn– Unable to overcome a slow shooting start, the Trevecca Nazarene University Men's Basketball team (2-6, 2-5 Great Midwest) fell at home on Monday, 67-43 to Great Midwest opponent Walsh (2-0, 2-0 Great Midwest).
The Trojans were without several key players still coming out of COVID-19 protocols, and dropped the first Great Midwest loss of the season at Trojan Fieldhouse.

SERIES HISTORY/NOTES
It was the seventh ever meeting between Trevecca and Walsh, and the Trojans now trail 1-6 all-time in the series.
HOW IT HAPPENED
Trevecca got off to a quick start in the first four minutes of play, scoring the first four points of the game and taking a 7-2 lead from an Austin Wills three-pointer with 16:18 to play in the opening half. Walsh followed the shot by Wills with an 11-0 run. Trevecca got within three with a triple by Jaylon Tharpe to make it a 13-10 Walsh lead with 8:41 to play in the first half, but the Cavaliers outscored the Trojans 22-6 over the next eight minutes of play to lead 35-16 at halftime. Trevecca was just four of 24 in the first half from the floor, while Walsh shot 15-of-33.
The offensive struggles continued in the second half, as Trevecca worked in young players such as freshmen Sam Champlin, Zeke Grier, Anthony Howard, and Hank Hutcheson. Champlin took over in the second half for the Trojans, starting with a three-pointer at the 10:59 mark in the second half. Champlin would go on to lead the team in scoring with a career high 12 points. With 3:22 to play, Trevecca trailed 61-33, and the Trojans were able to close the game out on a 13-6 run, but it wasn't enough as the game finished with a 67-46 final in favor of the Cavaliers.
PLAYER STATS BREAKDOWN
Redshirt freshman Sam Champlin led the Trojans in scoring with 12 points on five of eight shooting, and three rebounds. Jaylon Tharpe added nine points and four rebounds on three of six shooting, and Adam Webb contributed eight points and eight rebounds while shooting two of eight from the floor and four for four from the free throw line.
Brayden Jackson and Robbie Rusciano added five points each, with Austin Wills scoring three points. Imani Starling scoring two points with six rebounds, and Hank Hutcheson added two points and four rebounds.
Walsh's Luke Howse led the Cavaliers with 19 points and 11 rebounds. Howse shot eight of 15 from the floor and three of six from deep. Milan Square and Daryl Straughter were both in double figures as well for Walsh with 13 points each.
TEAM STATS BREAKDOWN
It was a poor shooting night for Trevecca, who shot just 28% from the floor, converting 14-of-50 attempts. The Trojans were just six of 21 from three-point range and turned the ball over 18 times compared to nine turnovers for Walsh.
The Cavaliers shot 45% on Monday with a 27-of-60 mark and converted eight of their 23 three-point tries. Walsh outrebounded Trevecca 37-34 and outscored the Trojans in the paint 24-12.
WHAT'S NEXT
Trevecca will host two more games this week in Great Midwest play, with Cedarville coming to Nashville on Thursday and Tiffin visiting Trojan Fieldhouse on Saturday.
