Trevecca Baseball | Trojans Lose to Saginaw Valley; host Union Tuesday

NASHVILLE – The Trevecca Nazarene University baseball team (4-9) lost 8-5 to Saginaw Valley State University (6-3) in the finale of the Trojan Classic at Jackson Field on Sunday evening.

SERIES HISTORY/NOTES

Saginaw Valley and Trevecca met for the first-time last season. The squads split a pair of games at Jackson Field, the win for the Trojans was Ryan Schmalz' 200th career win. The Cardinals led the series 3-1.

 

HOW IT HAPPENED

Saginaw Valley and Trevecca each scored a run in the third inning, Trojan Shawn Wallwork singled to center field driving in Ethan Harrison for the Trojan score … the Cardinals added two in the top of the fourth for a 3-1 lead, but Trevecca plated three in the fourth for a 4-3 lead, Shawn Wallwork did damage again in the fourth with a single to left scoring Trey Vanderpool and John O'Dwyer doubled to center driving in Wallwork and Trey Vanderpool … the Cardinal evened the game 4-4 with a run in the fifth and took control of the game with a four-run sixth and held an 8-4 lead … Trevecca added a run in the seventh on a solo home run off the bat of John O'Dwyer, but did not find a way to add to their totals the rest of the way

 

STATS REPORT

John O'Dwyer continued with his strong work at the plate going 4-for-5 with a run scored, three RBI, a double, and a home run … Shawn Wallwork went 2-for-5 with a double, a run scored and two RBI … Ethan Harrison added a double and a run scored … six Trojans worked on the mound with Cole Alsup starting and pitching 3.1 innings, allowing three runs on five hits, Braden Reece worked 1.1 in relief and was tagged with the loss after allowing four runs on three hits …

 

Trevecca outhit Saginaw, 12-10, but helped the Cardinals with two errors while the visitor produced a clean sheet defensively … Trevecca hurlers combined for 11 strike outs, but walked nine Cardinals and put two on with a hit-by-pitch while the Cardinal only walked one Trojan

 

WHATS NEXT

The Trojans are in the middle of an eight-game home stand. Trevecca is scheduled to host Union University (7-9) on Tuesday at 6 PM before welcoming Purdue Northwest (0-3) for three games beginning with a single game on Friday at 4 PM and a double header Saturday starting at 1 PM.
