MONTEVALLO, Ala. – The Trevecca Nazarene University baseball team (1-2) lost 15-8 and 7-6 (10) the first of two games at the University of Montevallo (5-1) at Kermit A. Johnson Field on Saturday.

SERIES HISTORY/NOTES

In the NCAA Division II era, the Falcons own a 9-5 edge in the series. The wins in games two and three of the series by the Falcons breaks the Trojans' five-game winning streak in the series.  

HOW IT HAPPENED

GAME ONE

After putting it all together on Friday, the Trojans struggled on the mound and in the field with five errors, the bats stayed hot scoring eight runs on 12 hits. The Falcons scored 15 runs on 12 hits. Trevecca opened the game with a two-run top of the first as they did yesterday, but today the Falcons answered with a three-run bottom of the first for a 3-2 lead. Trevecca regained the lead with another two runs in the second for a 4-3 lead, but the hosts added a run in their half of the inning for a 4-4 score through two innings. Montevallo scored three in the fifth and added a game-deciding eight-run seventh inning for a 15-4 advantage, Trevecca added four runs in the eighth. 

GAME TWO

The Trojans scored first off a Dalton Mauldin RBI double in the first inning. Montevallo responded with two runs in the bottom of the first and three in the second to take a 5-1 lead. The Falcons tacked on more one in the fourth and led 6-1 until the Trojans answered with a run in the sixth. The Trojans mounted a comeback with a pair of runs in the eighth and ninth before a sacrifice fly to right field in the 10th ended the game.

GAME ONE

Five Trojans contributed two hits with Bryant Goolsby did the most damage going 2-for-5 with a home run and three RBIs. Alex Clouthier (0-1) pitched four innings in relief of starter Cole Alsup and took the loss. Alsup pitched 1.1 innings allowing four runs on six walks and a hit while Clouthier gave up three runs on five hits.

GAME TWO

Dalton Mauldin went 3-5 with a double, walk, RBI and run scored. Bryant Goolsby (2-5) along with John O'Dwyer (2-4) and Chandler Miller (2-3) had multi-hit outings. Luis Rodriguez started and tossed five innings before Chase Douglas relieved him for two and struck out two. Zeke Lecomte (0-1) was tagged with the loss after finishing the final two and two third innings.

WHATS NEXT

Trevecca plays its home opener at Jackson Field on Friday, February 15 against Northwood.

The Trojans and Timberwolves play a three-game set and it is the first games played between the two squads since they first met during the 2018 season, a victory for Northwood at Jackson Field.
