HUNTSVILLE, Ala. – The Trevecca Nazarene University softball team (2-0) opened the 2020 season with a pair of wins over Christian Brothers University (0-2) 7-4 and the University of West Georgia (1-1) 5-4 at the University of Alabama-Huntsville hosted UAH Invitational on Friday.

The Trojans lead the all-time series 9-2 against Christian Brothers having won every game (nine straight) since 2014.
HOW IT HAPPENED
GAME 1: Christian Brothers tallied two runs with two outs in the top of the first behind a two-run double from Bree Brady. The Trojans responded by touching the plate once in the bottom half of the inning. NFCA All-American MaKray Odom walked in her first plate appearance of the 2020 season then promptly stole second. Megan Groves later brought in Odom, who reached third on throwing error, with a ground out. Both teams combined for two hits in the second inning. After holding CBU to a one-two-three inning in the top of the third, the Trojans offense erupted for five in the home frame. Megan Groves hit a 3 RBI triple scoring Lenna Robinson, Emilee Bundy, and Alyssa Triner. Carly Sperlich then drove in Groves with a double to left field. Sidney Brake brought in Kelsey Seitz, who reached on a fielder's choice, with a single through the left side. With two outs in fourth, the Trojans scored their seventh run when Odom had a bunt single to third. Odom stole second and third and plated a run when Robinson singled to the shortstop. A triple in the seventh gave CBU two runs back, but the Trojans prevailed 7-4.
GAME 2: After Trevecca surrendered a first-inning three-run homer by West Georgia's Alley Taylor, the Wolves were held scoreless for the next five innings. The Trojans cut into the 3-0 deficit in the fourth when Carly Sperlich hit a solo home run. Then a Savannah Scantlin triple played Sidney Brake who reached on a fielder's choice. In the fifth, the Trojans captured the lead when the first four Trojans reached base safely allowing MaKray Odom to score off Sperlich's single. With two outs Anna Bennett singled up the middle to bring in Lenna Robinson. The seventh saw both teams score a run. West Georgia tied it at 4-4 with an RBI groundout. In the bottom half of the seventh, the Trojans received a leadoff single from Kelsey Seitz and placed runners on first and second when Emilee Bundy bunted for a single. After an Abbie Page infield fly, Brooke Eakes stepped in and connected for the game-winning RBI double down the left-field line.
PLAYER/TEAM STATS REPORT
GAME 1: Lenna Robinson went 3-4 with an RBI and a run scored. MaKray Odom 2-3 (BB, 2 R) also recorded a multi-hit game.
Alex Behnke (1-0) recorded her first collegiate win by throwing five innings and striking out seven.
Both teams collected eight hits while CBU committed four errors to the Trojans' one.
GAME 2: Carly Sperlich went 3-4 and was responsible for three of the Trojans' five runs. Anna Bennett 2-3 (2 RBIs), Kelsey Seitz 2-3 (R), and MaKray Odom 2-3 (R) also had multi-hit games.
Hannah Caffey (1-0) collected her first collegiate win by tossing 2 2/3 innings of relief.
Trevecca had one error, while West Georgia had none. The Trojans edged the Wolves 13 to 4 in hits.

Tomorrow the Trojans conclude the UAH Invitational by challenging #18 Alabama-Huntsville (2-0) in a doubleheader beginning at 12:00 PM.
