ASHLAND, OH – The Trevecca Nazarene University women's soccer (0-3-2) battled Ashland University (3-1-1) for 110 minutes to receive a 1-1 draw in double overtime at Ferguson Field on Thursday.

THE SERIES

Trevecca and Ashland had never played a match before today.

THE MATCH

The Eagles fourth shot of the match was their lone goal of the fixture … Deijah Swihart connected for a goal off a pass from Makenzie Kelly to give Ashland a 1-0 advantage at 15:58 … the Trojans collected three first-half shots and were held scoreless for the first 45 minutes … though Trevecca took just two second-half shots they received a goal from Danyel Joy (FR/Clinton, TN) with the game hanging in the balance … Joy scored an unassisted goal, the first of her career, at 86:54 … the goal was enough to force a 1-1 draw after the full 90 minutes extending the game to overtime … neither team shot in the first 10 minute overtime period … despite four shots by Ashland including two saves by goalkeeper Delayna Holman (SO/Shepherdsville, KY) in the second overtime, the result held for a 1-1 draw.

WOMAN OF THE MATCH

Facing defeat in the closing minutes of the match, Danyel Joy scored the first collegiate goal of her career to push the Trojans into overtime. Joy took two shots today, both on goal.

WHAT'S NEXT

The match was the Trojans final non-conference fixture of the season. Trevecca hosts rival Kentucky Wesleyan College (2-1-0) at 7 PM on Saturday at the Trojan Soccer Complex.

The Trojans and Panthers will meet for the 13th time on Saturday. The Trojans own an 8-3-1 all-time lead in the series, having won the last six fixtures. During their unbeaten run, the Trojans have outscored the Panthers 13-5.
