NASHVILLE – The Trevecca Nazarene University Baseball Trojans (12-12, 6-4) split a pair of games Friday with Kentucky Wesleyan College (11-13, 6-4 G-MAC), 8-4, 5-15, at Jackson Field.

Trevecca and Kentucky Wesleyan will not play on Saturday due to weather concerns but will play Sunday at 1 PM at Jackson Field. The first game is set for seven innings while game two is set for nine.

SERIES HISTORY/NOTES:

Trevecca leads the all-time series 12-9, but the Panthers have won six of the last Ten meetings.    

HOW IT HAPPENED

GAME ONE: The back and forth affair started with Wesleyan scoring a run in the top of the first when Chase Andrews reached on a hit-by-pitch with the bases loaded, but Drew Pierce worked out of a bases-loaded and no out situation – allowing just the one run … Trevecca evened the score at 1-1 with a run in the bottom of the second … KWC regained the lead with a run in the top of the third … Trevecca took the lead for good with a four-run fourth that included a three-run home run by Dalton Mauldin and a solo shot from Javier Lopez … after the Panthers scored two in the top of the seventh to cut the Trojan lead to just one, 5-4, Trevecca scored two in their half of the inning for a 7-4 lead, Daniel Lankster hit a SAC fly scoring Braden Odom, Trey Vanderpool drew a bases-loaded walk to force in another run … Trevecca added one more in the eighth on a Bryan Goolsby home run for the 8-4 final.

GAME TWO:  Wesleyan scored two in the first and Trevecca responded with a run in the bottom of the inning on a balk that scored Dalton Mauldin … KWC took a 5-1 lead with a three-run third … Trevecca closed it to 5-3 with a two-run third – Bryant Goolsby singled to score Daulton Mauldin, Sam Mang double to score Bryant Goolsby … Wesleyan pulled away with five in the fifth and five in the sixth to lead 15-3 … Trevecca plated two more in the seventh when Brian Lee singled to score Michael Brown, Carrington Wilson walked to force in John Anderson.

PLAYER / TEAM STAT REPORT

GAME ONE: Bryan Goolsby went 3-4 with two runs scored, an RBI, a walk, a double, and home run … Trey Vanderpool scored a run, drove in a run, walked three times, and had a stolen base … Daniel Lankster went 2-3 with a SAC fly, a run scored and two RBI and some standout defense at third … Drew Pierce (1-0) picked up his first decision this year going six innings allowing four hits, two runs – earned, two walks, and sat down seven Panthers on strikes … Jay Benard pitched the final two innings giving up just two hits to earn the save.

The Trojans scored eight runs on eight hits and drew eight walks … The Panthers also collected eight hits but committed three errors.

GAME TWO: Dalton Mauldin went 1-1 with two runs scored and drew two walks … Sam Mang doubled and drove in a run … Tyler Koprowski (1-2) took the loss starting and going 4.2 innings.

WHAT'S NEXT

Trevecca hosts Kentucky Wesleyan College (11-13, 6-4 G-MAC) again for a pair of games at 1:00 PM on Sunday. Trevecca visits former conference foe Union University on Tuesday (04/02) at 6:00 PM. Since 2001 Trevecca owns a 26-22-1 advantage in the series. Union defeated Trevecca last year in Nashville, but the Trojans are 8-2-1 vs. the Bulldogs in the last 11 meetings. The Trojans have won the last four meetings in Jackson.
