CANTON, Ohio – The Trevecca Nazarene University Baseball Trojans (10-8, 4-0) defeated Malone University (10-9, 0-4), 7-1 and 18-6 at Jackson (HS) Field on Friday afternoon.

SERIES HISTORY/NOTES:

TNU leads the all-time series with Malone 8-3. The Trojans swept the Pioneers in both games played last season, extending Trevecca's win streak to six over Malone. The Trojans have won five in a row now and will at least share first place in the Great Midwest Athletic conference when the dust settles after the first weekend of conference action

HOW IT HAPPENED

GAME ONE:  Trevecca led from start to finish scoring a run in the second and two runs that sealed the win in the third … the Trojans added four in the fifth for a 7-0 lead while Malone added their run in the bottom of the frame … in the game-deciding third, Javier Lopez delivered a two-out single to right, Bryant Goolsby singled, a failed pick off attempt moved Goolsby to third and Lopez scored what proved to be the winning run, Sam Mang followed with an RBI single – driving in Goolsby

GAME TWO: Trevecca scored the first run in the top of the second, but Malone took the lead (3-1) with three in their half of the third, both teams scored a pair in the fourth for a 5-3 Pioneer lead, a three-run sixth put the Trojans ahead 6-5, Malone evened the game at 6-6 with a single run in the sixth, Trevecca scored 12 unanswered with three in the seventh and nine in the ninth … in the game-deciding seventh, Dalton Mauldin lead off with a walk and an out later Bryant Goolsby singled moving Mauldin to second, Mauldin stole third and a ground out moved Goolsby to second setting the table for John O'Dwyer's three-run home run and a 9-6 Trojan lead

GAME ONE: Jake Roberson (3-2) pitched a complete game and allowed just a single run on seven hits while striking out seven with no walks … Javier Lopez went 3-4 with two runs scored and added another double … John O'Dwyer collected two RBI and a double and was 3-4 at the plate with two runs scored … Andrew Blount hit a double going 2-4 at the plate with an RBI …

GAME TWO:  Tiger Cox (1-0) pitched an inning and two thirds of perfect baseball to pick up the win while Tanner Killian (1) gained the save pitching the final inning and two-thirds also turning in a perfect performance with three strikeouts … four Trojans contributed multi-hit efforts led by Sam Mang's four-hit game … Mang went 4-5 with four runs scored, five RBI, a walk, two home runs, and a double … Brandon Hauswald went 2-5 with a run scored and a walk … Javier Lopez continued his hot bat with a 2-5 game with three runs scored, two RBI, a walk, and a double … Bryant Goolsby went 2-4 with four runs, and a walk

TEAM REPORT

GAME ONE:  Trevecca collected 12 hits and committed only one error and limited the Pioneers to seven hits

GAME TWO:  Trevecca scored a season high 18 runs on 14 hits with an error while Malone had eight hits off five Trojan pitchers … Trojan pitchers scattered eight hits and five walks

WHAT'S NEXT

Trevecca travels next weekend to Lake Erie College (5-5, 0-0) for four games with a double header Friday and Saturday. Trevecca dropped both games last season and have never beaten LEC all-time.
