CANTON, Ohio – The Trevecca Nazarene University Baseball Trojans (8-8, 2-0) defeated Malone University (10-7, 0-2), 6-4 and 11-4 at Jackson Field on Friday afternoon.

SERIES HISTORY/NOTES:

TNU leads the all-time series with Malone 6-3. The Trojans swept the Pioneers in both games played last season, extending Trevecca's win streak to four over Malone.

HOW IT HAPPENED

GAME ONE: Malone led off the second inning with a home run to take a 1-0 lead … the Trojans did the same when Javier Lopez (SR/Lawrenceville, GA ) homered to begin the fourth inning … three runs were scored in the sixth inning … Dalton Mauldin (JR/Lake City, FL) scored off Bryant Goolsby (FR/Carthage, TN)'s double for the Trojans, while Malone tacked on two in the bottom half of the inning to take a 3-2 advantage … the Trojans tied it at 3-3 when John O'Dwyer (JR/Nashville, TN) doubled and later scored when Chandler Miller (JR/Marietta, GA) reached on a fielder's choice … TNU took a 6-3 lead in the eighth inning … Lopez hit a leadoff double to begin the inning … Bryant Goolsby and John O'Dwyer then walked to load the bases … all three runners scored after Miller reached base by an error again … Malone scored once more in the ninth, but it wasn't enough as TNU won 6-4.

GAME TWO: The Pioneers received another leadoff home run to begin the second inning to take a 1-0 lead … Trevecca responded by putting a five spot up in the third inning … Daniel Lankster (SR/Hendersonville, TN) began things with a leadoff single … Lankster advanced on a Brian Lee (FR/Grove City, Ohio) sacrifice bunt … Trey Vanderpool (JR/Dacula, GA) then hit a double to bring in Lankster (1-1) … Dalton Mauldin doubled to bring in Vanderpool (2-1) … Javier Lopez connected for a single to score Mauldin (3-1) … Lopez advanced to third when Bryant Goolsby singled … Sam Mang (SR/Woodstock, GA) drew a walk to load the bases … all runners advanced and Lopez scored (4-1) off a wild pitch … John O'Dwyer drew a walk to reload the bases … Braden Odom (SO/Chesterfield, IN) fouled out to right, but Goolsby scored (5-1) … Malone tacked on two more in the bottom half of the inning and trailed 5-3 after three … the Trojans scored three more in the fourth inning … Trey Vanderpool had a leadoff single and stole second … Dalton Mauldin walked and Javier Lopez brought them both in with a three-run home run (8-3) … Trevecca scored twice in the fifth … Brian Lee scored (9-3) off Trey Vanderpool's double … Vanderpool later scored (10-3) off a Javier Lopez sacrifice fly … Malone scored (10-4) in the bottom half of the inning … Goolsby hit a two-out single to score (11-4) Dalton Mauldin in the ninth … TNU won 11-4.

GAME ONE: Trevecca collected six hits and allowed seven … there was one Trojan error and three for the Pioneers.

GAME TWO: Trevecca had 12 hits while Malone had six … Malone committed two errors to the Trojans one … Trojan pitchers combined to collect six strikeouts of Pioneers, while Malone pitchers struck out nine Trojan batters.

WHAT'S NEXT

Trevecca concludes its series with Malone tomorrow with a doubleheader at 11 AM. Next weekend, the Trojans travel to Lake Erie College (5-5, 0-0) for four games on Friday and Saturday. Trevecca dropped both games last season and have never beaten LEC all-time.
