NASHVILLE – The Trevecca Nazarene University Trojans (4-3) took the opening game of the 2019 Trojan Classic with a 3-2 win over Rockhurst University (0-5) at Jackson Field on Sunday evening.

SERIES HISTORY/NOTES:

Trevecca and Rockhurst met for the first time since the 2014 season in which the Trojans swept the Hawks over three games. With tonight's win, Trevecca improves to 4-0 all-time against Rockhurst.

HOW IT HAPPENED

Rockhurst quickly got on the scoreboard with a run in the top of the first inning … the Trojans would not respond until the third inning when Javier Lopez connected for an RBI single to bring in Braden Odom … the score remained tied at 1-1 for the next four and a half innings … Dalton Mauldin walked to begin the eighth inning and later scored on a Bryant Goolsby single … the Trojans second run of the inning came when Brandon Hauswald scored off a Chandler Miller sacrifice fly … the Trojans took a 3-1 lead into the ninth inning … Rockhurst got a leadoff single to begin the inning before Jake Roberson struck out the next two batters … the baserunner advanced to second on a passed ball and to third on another single before scoring on a single … the next batter flew out to centerfield to end the game.

Drew Pierce started and threw five and two third innings … Jake Roberson came on in relief and tossed three and a third innings gaining his second win of the year … Pierce struck out 10 batters while Roberson wrung up five … Javier Lopez went 2-4 with an RBI … Braden Odom went 2-3 and scored a run … Andrew Blount drew two walks.

TEAM REPORT

Rockhurst outhit the Trojans 8-5, but managed to draw only three walks compared to the Trojans four … Rockhurst batters struck out 15 times as to Trevecca's 12.

WHAT'S NEXT

Trevecca concludes the 2019 Trojan Classic with a meeting against Ashland University (1-0) at 3 PM tomorrow afternoon. Trevecca and Ashland have met twice before, each team has won a game.
