NASHVILLE – The Trevecca Nazarene University men's basketball team (4-19, 4-14 G-MAC) defeated Davis & Elkins College (6-20, 3-15 G-MAC), 72-63, in Trojan Fieldhouse on Saturday's Senior Day.

SERIES HISTORY/NOTES

Trevecca and Davis & Elkins met for the second time this season. The Senators claimed a 67-55 victory over the Trojans on January 12 in Elkins, West Virginia. The Trojans now lead the all-time series 7-6.

Today's game marks the final home game for senior Deion Johnson (SR/Jacksonville, FL). Nick Anyang (SR/Juba, South Sudan) and Mehdi El Mardi (JR/Rabat, Morocco) were also celebrated during Senior Day but still have years of eligibility remaining.

The Trojans set the program record for 3-point field goals made tonight with 18 made 3-pointers.

The Trojans previously set the school record when making 17 3-pointers in a home win versus Tiffin.

Evan Ragsdale (JR/Nashville, TN)d the single-game record of 3-pointers made earlier this season on the road against Tiffin.

HOW IT HAPPENED

The Trojans jumped out to another hot start scoring the game's first 11 points fueled by Austin Wills (SO/Benton, IL) … after allowing a 3-pointer and a free-throw the Trojans led by 15 (19-4) … the Trojans led by a first-half 16 points when Nathan Harper (SO/Lexington, KY) connected for a 3-pointer … with 5:37 remaining in the half the Trojans led 27-12 before the Senators rallied for an 8-0 run to pull within seven … TNU closed the half on a 12-7 run to lead 39-27 at the break … Trevecca's first four made field goals were 3-pointers to give the Trojans a 15 point lead (51-36) … D&E went on a 7-0 run to cut the deficit back to eight, 51-43 … the Senators made it a six-point game (56-50) with 10:37 remaining … just four minutes later the Trojans outscored the Senators 10-2 to push their lead back to 14 (66-52) … Evan Ragsdale made the Trojans final four baskets all 3-pointers to help the Trojans to a 72-63 victory.

TEAM STATS BREAKDOWN

The Trojans shot 43.3% from the field, 45.0% from 3-point range and 50.0% from the foul line … the Senators shot 35.0% from the field and 26.1% from 3-point range while also going 71.4% from the foul line … Davis & Elkins outrebounded the Trojans 43-37 … TNU had twice as many assists, 16-8 though D&E had the same in steals, 8-4 … Trevecca's bench outscored Davis & Elkins, 31-25.

Austin Wills scored a team-high 23 points on 5-of-12 shooting from 3-point range … Jaylon Tharpe (SO/Clarksville, TN) finished with 16 points, five rebounds, and three assists … Evan Ragsdale also entered double figures with 15 points (5-of-11 3PT) … Imani Starling (SO/Nashville, TN) grabbed a team-high 11 rebounds to go with six assists and two points.

WHAT'S NEXT     

The Trojans hit the road next week when they challenge Hillsdale (17-8, 13-5) on Thursday and then the University of Findlay (23-3, 16-2) next Saturday. TNU is 0-3 all-time against HC and 0-5 all-time against Findlay.
