Trevecca Baseball | Trojans Swept by Lewis Flyers, Host Rockhurst & Ashland Next

NASHVILLE  – The Lewis University Flyers (3-0) baseball team swept the Trevecca Nazarene University Trojans (3-3) in a three-game weekend series with a pair of wins on Saturday at Jackson Field. The Flyers beat the Trojans 6-4 and 6-1

SERIES HISTORY/NOTES: In the NCAA Division II era, Lewis leads the series 4-2 through six  games in the all-time series … Trevecca claimed the first meeting in 2014, and the teams split last years two meetings.

 

GAME CHRONICLE 

 GAME ONE: Lewis continued to set the tone for the weekend with five-runs in the top of the second inning and never trailed … Trevecca cut the lead to one with a two-run second and again in the third, but the Flyers sealed the win with a bonus run in the fourth and denied the Trojans a crooked number the rest of the way … in the five-run second the Flyers had five hits and benefitted from a Trojan error, but left the bases loaded.  

 
GAME TWO: Lewis grabbed the lead in game two with a run in the first and two in the second of ra 3-0 advantage, one they would not relinquish … Trevecca scored their lone run in the third and allowed another Flyer run in the fourth and two in the ninth … Dalton Mauldin drove in the lone Trojan run with an RBI-single to left center, scoring Brandon Hauswald

GAME ONE: Lewis outhit the Trojans 12-5, but played errorless ball while the Trojans committed on error … 

 
GAME TWO: Lewis gathered nine hits to the Trojans four and the home team assisted the visitors with three errors … seven Trojans were retired on strikes while Trojan hurlers collected six strikeouts on Flyer batters. 
 
 

TEAM REPORT

GAME ONE: The Flyers sent four hurlers to the mound with Tyler Talbot (1-0) getting the win in relief and Robert Talorico (1) the save. Jesse Peters (0-1) started for the first time in more than a year and lasted 1.2 innings. Davis Jackson pitched the final 5.1 innings for the Trojans and allowed a run over that span with four strikeouts. No Trojan delivered more than a hit with Sam Mang, Bryant Goolsby, and Dalton Mauldin each putting a double on the board. Goolsby drove in two runs with his double, later scoring a run himself. 

 
GAME TWO: Jake Roberson (1-1) started for the Trojans and pitched five complete innings before Carson McClure, Hunter Davis, Gideon McKeen, and Tyler Koprowski combined pitch the final four innings. Brad Littleton (1-0) got the win for the Flyers with six innings of work and three innings of relief earned Matt McCauley (1) the save. No Trojan had more than one hit and there were no extra base hits on the Trojan ledger .
  

WHATS NEXT

Trevecca welcomes Rockhurst University Hawks (0-3) for a pair of games on Friday (02.22) at 3:00 PM and will face Ashland University Eagles (0-0) in a single game on Saturday (02.23) at 4:00 PM.
