Trevecca Baseball | Trojans lose first of three-game series with Lewis

NASHVILLE  – The Lewis University Flyers (1-0) baseball team rallied to give Trevecca Nazarene University Trojans (3-1) their first loss in their home opener, 5-3. Friday's meeting is the first of a three-games series at Trevecca's Jackson Field. The series will conclude with Saturday's Noon doubleheader.

SERIES HISTORY/NOTES: In the NCAA Division II era, Lewis and Trevecca are 2-2 through four games in the all-time series … Trevecca claimed the first meeting in 2014, and the teams split last years two meetings.

  

GAME CHRONICLE 

Trevecca opened the scoring and took a 2-0 lead in their half of the second on a two-out, two-run double to center field off the bat of Justin Chauvin … the visiting Flyers tied the game at 2-2  with a pair of runs in their half of the third when Ryan Schefske drew a bases-loaded walk, then Andrew Tenison drove in another with a single … the Trojans pulled ahead again in the fourth, taking advantage of two Flyer miscues, Justin Chauvin drove in his third run of the game when he reached on an error … Lewis did more damage in the fifth tying the score without a hit, Connor Rutherford led off the inning with a walk, stole second, advanced to third on a groundout and scored on Ryan Schefske's groundout to second … Lewis took the lead in the eighth, Anthony Rios and Julian Everett hit back-to-back doubles to put the Flyers ahead 4-3, Anthony Cavalieri reached on an infield single scoring Everett for the final score

      

PLAYER STATS REPORT

Justin Chauvin drove in all three Trojan runs going 1-4 with a double … Bryant Goolsby delivered a double and scored a run … Drew Pierce started and pitched five innings and allowed three runs with six strikeouts and four walks while giving up three hits

 

TEAM REPORT

Trevecca outhit Lewis 7-6, and the Flyers overcame five errors while the Trojans turned in a clean sheet. Trojan hurlers sat down eight Flyers on strikes, while Lewis pitchers handed out 12 strikeouts to Trojan batters.
