NASHVILLE – The Trevecca Nazarene University men's basketball team (1-12, 1-3 Great Midwest) fell in its final game of 2019, a non-conference game with Davenport University (9-4, 1-2 GLIAC). The Panthers rallied from an early Trojan lead for a 75-51 victory.

The Panthers are now 1-0 in the series with the Trojans.

HOW IT HAPPENED

With the Trojans leading 7-5, the Panthers turned the game in their favor with a 16-3 run and led 21-10 with 11:15 remaining in the half … with 5:37 left the Davenport lead reached 20 (37-17) … a Jaylon Tharpe three with 1:34 was the final basket of the half, which revealed a 39-23 advantage for the Panthers … a 5-0 run to start the second half pulled the Trojans to within 11 (39-28) with 18:54 left … the largest lead of the game came with 1:42 when Tafari Beckford hit two free throws to give Davenport a 26-point lead (75-49).   

TEAM STATS BREAKDOWN

Davenport hit 11-of-12 from the foul line and added 12 three-pointers … the Trojans hit only two free throws in five attempts and were 7-of-31 from three-point range (22.6%)

PLAYER STATS REPORT

The key to the game for the Panthers was a season-high 27 points from Robbie Bramhill who hit eight three-pointers and grabbed eight rebounds … Bramhill had hit just 11 three-pointers in the Panthers first 12 games, he was averaging 9.5 points and his previous season high was 18 …  three Trojans scored in double figures – Nathan Harper (12), Reed Smith (12), and Justin Headrick (10) … Chris Rogers contributed seven assists in his first start and Reed Smith topped the team with six rebounds.

WHAT'S NEXT 

The Trojans return to action Thursday, January 2nd at 7 PM when they visit Malone University (8-5, 2-1 Great Midwest) at Osborne Hall in Canton, Ohio … the Pioneers are 5-1 all-time versus the Trojans.

The Trojans face Walsh University (9-2, 2-1 Great Midwest) on Saturday, January 4th at Cecchini Center in North Canton, Ohio … the Cavaliers are 3-1 versus the Trojans all-time, but the Trojans defeated the Cavs, a team that made the 2019 NCAA Tournament, 67-63 at the Trojan Fieldhouse.

The Trojans return home on Thursday, January 9th at 7:45 PM when they host Alderson Broddus University (1-8, 0-3 Great Midwest) … the Battlers are 11-2 all-time in the series with the Trojans, but the Trojans won the last meeting, 68-54, at the Trojan Fieldhouse … on Saturday, January 11th at 4:15 PM the Trojans host Ohio Valley University (3-9, 0-3 Great Midwest) … the Trojans are 10-2 versus the Fighting Scots all-time, but lost the last meeting 75-74 in Vienna, W.Va.
