CLEVELAND, Tenn. – The Trevecca Nazarene University volleyball team (10-9, 1-2 Great Midwest) dropped a non-conference match 3-1 to Lee University (7-9, 0-4 GSC) 16-25, 23-25, 25-11, 18-25 on Tuesday in Walker Arena.

THE SERIES

Trevecca is 2-24 versus Lee since 1999. The Trojans last won in the series in 2014 and the Flames have won the last five in the series.

THE MATCH

Trevecca 1, Lee 3

Lee jumped out to an early 6-0 in the opening set which the Trojans could not get a grasp on … the Flames took the set, 25-16 … the closest set of the evening came in the second when Lee hung on to win 25-23 … the largest advantage for either side was just four points in the second set … the Trojans returned the early favor against the Flames in the third set … with Chloee McDaniel (FR/Hendersonville, TN) serving, the first five points were awarded in favor of the visiting team … Lee rallied to within two (9-7) before the Trojans began another run … Madison Martin (SO/Martinsville, IN)'s service game led to five consecutive points and a 14-7 Trevecca lead … a 6-0 Trojan run closed the set 25-11 … the final set remained tight most of the way … the difference coming when Lee used a strong finish to take five points away from Trevecca and build a 23-17 lead, late … Lee won the fourth set 25-18.

TOP PLAYERS

Ellie Buffler (FR/Nashville, TN) recorded a double-double with a team-high 15 kills and 14 digs … Mary Holmberg (SR/San Marcos, CA) had the best attacking percentage .529 (10 K, 1 E, 17 TA) and two blocks … Chloee McDaniel collected a team-high 34 assists and 16 digs.

THE TEAM

The Trojans hit .237 (48 K, 16 E, 135 TA) for the match with 72 digs, 42 assists, and six service aces.  

WHAT'S NEXT 

The team remains on the road to face Lake Erie College (5-11, 1-2 Great Midwest) on October 11 and Ursuline College (0-13, 0-3 Great Midwest) on October 12.

The Midwest Crossover follows on October 18-19 in Indianapolis at The Academy of Volleyball.

Lake Erie is 2-0 all-time versus the Trojans while Trevecca leads the series with Ursuline, 7-5.
