Trevecca Volleyball | Trojans Fall to UAH in Four, Await Homecoming Weekend

HUNTSVILLE, Ala. – The Trevecca Nazarene University volleyball team (13-14, 4-3 Great Midwest) fell in four sets to the University of Alabama-Huntsville (18-7, 8-2 GSC) (17-25, 25-23, 22-25, 14-25) in Spragins Halls on Tuesday.

THE SERIES

The Chargers lead the series 8-1, sweeping the Trojans this season. The Chargers defeated Trevecca 3-0 (25-18, 25-19, 25-20) on September 7th in the Charger Invitational. The two squads needed five sets during the 2018 meeting in Nashville.

 

THE MATCH

Trevecca 1, Alabama-Huntsville 3

The Trojans could not recover after conceding the first three points of the match. UAH extended its 3-0 lead to 6-1. The Chargers separated in the first when the Isabelle Barnes led service game yielded UAH four straight points. UAH won the opening set 25-17. The Trojans won the second set after trailing on a few occasions. Down 4-6, the Trojans rattled off four points to take an 8-6 advantage. The Charged tied the set at 8-8 before the Trojans used another run to lead 11-8. Some late service errors from UAH gave Trevecca the second set 25-23. Sabrina Duncan helped the Chargers to the first three points of set three. A Madison Martin (SO/Martinsville, IN) kill pulled the Trojans to within 6-7 before the Chargers went on a 6-0 run to take a 13-6 advantage. The Trojans stormed back late, though, rallying from down 11-19 to level at 20-20. A service ace and kill gave the Chargers the third set 25-22. UAH took early control of the fourth set, winning 12 of the first 15 points. The Trojans cut the final set deficit (7-19) to nine when a service error and back-to-back kills from Austyn Baldwin (SO/Kingston Springs, TN) made it a 10-19 match. However, the Chargers won the final set 25-14.

  

TOP PLAYER

Austyn Baldwin led the night for the Trojans. The sophomore collected a team-high 18 kills and hit .621 (18/0/29).

 

THE TEAM

As a team the Trojans combined to hit .248 collecting 55 kills, 48 assists, and 67 digs. Austyn Baldwin (18) and Ellie Buffler (FR/Nashville, TN) (14) recorded double-digit kill totals while five different Trojans collected double-digit digs. Chloee McDaniel (FR/Hendersonville, TN) notched 46 of the team's 48 assists. The Trojans hit a match-best .324 (15/4/34) in the second set.

 

WHAT'S NEXT 

Trevecca hosts Hillsdale College (17-3, 6-0 Great Midwest) on Friday at 6 PM in Trojan Fieldhouse and the University of Findlay (6-16, 3-3 Great Midwest) at 11:00 AM on Saturday for Homecoming.

 

The Trojans are 0-4 all-time against the Great Midwest leading Hillsdale Chargers and the Findlay Oilers.
