PHILLIPI, W. Va. - The Trevecca Nazarene University volleyball team (5-3, 3-1 G-MAC) defeated Alderson Broaddus University (5-5, 1-2 G-MAC), 3-0 (25-23, 25-21, 25-22) on Saturday in the Rex Pyles Arena.

Trevecca fell into a 4-2 hole before tying it at 5-5 … the Battlers used a 4-0 run to distance themselves at 10-6 … the Trojans kept within striking distance for much of the first set though they trailed … trailing 17-21, the Trojans went on a 3-0 run to close the gap to 20-21 … the Trojans first lead of the first set came at 23-23 off an attack error by Alderson Broaddus … a kill by Madison Martin (FR/Martinsville, IN) forced a timeout at 24-23 … the Trojans claimed the first set 25-23 off another attacking error from the Battlers … the Trojans jumped out to a 5-0 lead after three straight service aces from Hannah Bornemann (FR/Oswego, IL) to begin the second set … the Trojans held leads of 7-1, 10-6 and 15-9 in the second set … Alderson Broaddus cut it to one, 18-17 but did not get any closer … the Trojans closed out set two off a Battler attacking error, 25-21 … the third set remained close early with the Trojans establishing a lead at 10-7 … the then Battlers tied it at 11-11 before the Trojans went on a 6-0 run to lead 17-11 … the Battlers went on a run of their own cutting the deficit to 18-16 … the Trojans closed out set three and the match, 25-22.

TOP TROJANS

Madison Clements (SO/Goshen, KY) led the Trojans with seven kills and a .500 hitting percentage … Claire Hindman (FR/Westfield, IN) led the team with 12 digs …  Hannah Bornemann led the team with 22 assists and four service aces.

TROJAN TEAM TRENDS

The best hitting percentage for the Trojans came in the first set hitting .405 (18 K, 3 E, 37 TA), and the Trojans held the Battlers to hitting just .094 in the second set (13, 10, 32).

WHAT'S NEXT 

The Trojans return home for matches against Cedarville University (1-7, 0-1 G-MAC) and Tiffin University (6-3, 1-0 G-MAC) on Friday and Saturday, September 14-15. The Yellow Jackets lead the series 11-4 and Tiffin and Trevecca are tied 1-1.
