Trevecca Men's Basketball | Whitfield Scores 37 in Trojans Senior Day Win over Ohio Valley

NASHVILLE, Tenn. –The Trevecca Nazarene University men's basketball team (6-22, 5-15 G-MAC) defeated Ohio Valley University (3-23, 2-17 G-MAC) 104-71 on Saturday in Trojan Fieldhouse.

Trevecca's lone senior Jacob Williams finished off his career with an 18 point game that included three 3-pointers. Williams finishes his career with 1103 points, 365 rebounds, 131 assists, and 108 steals. He also hit 217 career three-pointers, 77 this year. He averaged a career-best 15.1 points per game this year. Williams set a TNU record hitting nine three-pointers in a game last season. He became the 41st Trojan to surpass the 1000 career point mark. He finishes 35th on the all-time scoring list. He finished with the fifth most made three-pointers (217). He is just the second Trojan in the NCAA era to surpass the 1000 career point mark, Byron Sanford (1379) is the other Trojan to reach 1000 career points in the NCAA era. 

 
Devin Whitfield scored more than 30 points in a game for the fourth time this season with his 37 against Ohio Valley in the season finale. He scored a career-high 38, also a double-double, in the Trojans 97-83 win at Ohio Valley earlier this season (01/11/18). Additionally, he scored 33 in Trevecca's 80-65 loss versus Walsh (01/06/18) at Trevecca. Whitfield scored 34 in the Trojans 87-71 win at Davis & Elkins (02/15/18).
 
Whitfield's 38 and 37 point games are the most by a Trojan in the NCAA Division II era and the most by a Trojan since Michael France scored 43 in 2012.
 
Whitfield ended his sophomore season with 907 career points. He averaged 20.5 points per game, shooting 46.9% from three-point range and adding in 6.5 rebounds per game. Whitfield's 20.5 points per game is the most for a Trojan in the NCAA era and the most for any Trojan since Brian Oduor averaged 20.9 points per game during the 2008-2009 season. 
 
Whitfield ends the regular season as the second-leading scorer in the Great Midwest Athletic Conference, just short of Mike Davis of Davis & Elkins (22.0).

SERIES/HISTORY: TNU leads the series 10-1 … it is the first time TNU has scored 100 plus points in a game since they did it in 2016 on the road against Salam International on Feburary 25th (102-82) … It is the first time the Trojans have eclipsed the 100 plus point mark at home since December 7th, 2013 when they beat Ohio Valley 117-94.

Trevecca started the game with a 35-9 run that lasted until 7:54 left in the half … TNU led 55-28 at the end of the first half … in the second half Trevecca had their biggest run from 11:16 to 7:41 on an 18-2 run to give them a 90-55 lead … TNU won the game 104-71.

Trevecca shot 42.6% (23-54) from the field, 33.3% (8-24) from three-point range, and 76.5% (13-17) from the line. OVU outscored TNU 23-5 in the bench points and 21-18 on points off of turnovers. OVU outrebounded TNU 32-28.
