INDIANAPOLIS - The Trevecca Nazarene University volleyball team (7-15, 5-8 G-MAC) lost to Lake Superior State (5-16, 2-9 GLIAC), 3-0 (21-25, 24-26, 20-25) and Quincy University (12-12, 2-9 GLVC), 3-0 (25-18, 25-19, 25-21) on Saturday to conclude play in the 11th annual Midwest Regional Volleyball Crossover.

GAME CHRONICLE  1

Trevecca 0, Lake Superior State University 3

The Trojans took the first point of the match, but never led again in the first set … the difference came when LSSU used a 5-0 run to extend its lead from 6-3 to 11-3 … TNU cut it to within four at 20-16, and lost the first set 25-21 …  TNU jumped out to a 3-0 lead in the second set before LSSU took the next four points to lead 4-3 … tied at 4-4, TNU used a 4-0 run to lead 8-4 … TNU maintained its two to three-point lead until late in the set … the Trojans led 23-19, but LSSU went on a 7-1 run to close the set, 26-24 … in set three, TNU got out to a 3-1 lead … LSSU tied it at 5-5, but TNU maintained their lead until 12-12 … LSSU used a 5-1 run at 12-12 to lead 17-13 … TNU got within three again at 19-16 which forced an LSSU timeout … out of the timeout, TNU trailed by just one at 18-19, but LSSU went on a 3-0 run to lead 22-18 when TNU called a timeout … LSSU won the third set 25-20.

Today's match was the first meeting ever between Trevecca and LSSU in volleyball.

Trevecca's lone junior, Mary Holmberg, led the team with a .312 attack percentage (6 K, 1 E, 16 TA) … Hannah Bornemann had a team-high 20 of Trevecca's 24 assists … Bornemann also added three service aces and a team-high 11 digs … Austyn Baldwin had nine kills.

Trojans hit .111 (28 K, 15 E, 117 TA) for the match and produced a 7-6 advantage in blocks.

Trevecca 0, Quincy 3

The first set was tight with ten ties and seven lead changes, but with the Trojans leading 17-16 the Hawks nearly ran the table, outscoring TNU 9-1 down the stretch for the win … the second set was nearly as tight with nine ties and four lead changes … Trevecca led 15-14, but Quincy outscored the Trojans 11-4 down the stretch for the win … Trevecca seemed to right the ship in the third with a 5-0 start and lead 7-2 … QU grabbed their first lead at 13-12 … Trevecca responded with a 5-1 run, and a 17-14 lead … with Trevecca leading 20-17 the Hawks surged again with an 8-1 run to the finish

SERIES HISTORY

TNU and QU have played just once before today, the Hawks secured a five-set victory in 2016 and now lead the series 2-0.

Austyn Baldwin led the way with nine kills and a .353 attack percentage … Baldwin added two service aces, nine digs, and two blocks … Hannah Bornemann produced 25 set assists five digs, and four kills … Jordan Sprinkle added seven kills (.357 attack %) with four blocks

2018 MIZUNO MIDWEST REGION CROSSOVER FACTS

** The regional volleyball event features 38 NCAA Division II Midwest region programs including 12 Great Midwest Athletic Conference (G-MAC), 14 Great Lakes Valley Conference (GLVC), and 12 Great Lakes Intercollegiate Athletic Conference (GLIAC).

** The schedule is set up according to a seeding system based on each team's performance this season. Trevecca is the #9 seed from the Great Midwest.

** It is the nation's largest collegiate volleyball tournament at one venue. This year it is being held at the Academy Volleyball Club in Indianapolis. **

WHAT'S NEXT 

The Trojans return to Trojan Fieldhouse on Tuesday, October 16th to host Kentucky Wesleyan College (12-10, 6-7 G-MAC) at 6 PM.

KWC owns a 9-7 advantage in the all-time series and have won the last three meetings over TNU.
