NASHVILLE, Tenn. – The third-seeded Trevecca Nazarene University softball team opened defense of their four consecutive Great Midwest Athletic Conference (G-MAC) softball championships with a meeting against fourth-seeded Davis & Elkins College.

SERIES HISTORY/NOTES

The Trojans and Senators have played 16 times with the Trojans taking 15 in the series. The teams met four times in Elkins, WV earlier this year and the Trojans won all four games

 

GAME CHRONICLE

Savannah Carr pitched a complete game shutout for the Trojans and recorded 13 of the 21 outs on ground outs ... Trevecca scored a run in the bottom of the first after MaKray Odom lead-off the Trojan half of the inning with a triple, Bailey Alexander singled in the next at bat to drive in Odom for the 1-0 Trojan lead ... MaKray Odom singled to lead off the TNU fifth, then stole second before scoring on a Caitlyn Hudgins singled to left, Ali Birchfield reached on a fielder's choice and Mary Collins singled to set the table for Alex Richardson who tripled to push the Trojan lead to 4-0 with two RBI ... TNU added a run in the sixth when Danielle Tyson reached on a one-out single, after moving to third with two away, she scored on a Caitlyn Hudgins single ...

Trevecca collected 11 hits and committed one error ... two triples ... only three strikeouts ... The Trevecca softball program is undefeated in more than four years of play at the G-MAC Tournament ... the Trojans are 16-0 all-time in G-MAC Tournament play ... the 2017 Tournament winner advances to the NCAA Regional with the G-MAC Automatic bid. Trevecca has advanced to the regional in each of the last two seasons, reaching the region finals each season. Last season, 2016, the team received the first G-MAC Automatic Qualifier and in 2015, the Trojans were the first G-MAC team to earn an at large bid to region play.

 

PLAYER HIGHLIGHTS/NOTES

Savannah Carr (11-8) started the game in the circle for the Trojans and pitched a seven inning complete game shutout allowing six hits, three walks, with four strikeouts – Carr's performance was stellar as she allowed one wild pitch, but did not allow an extra base hit and only faced 25 batters, four over the minimum and used just 101 pitches ... Carr pitched her 10th complete game and turned in her second shutout of the year

MaKray Odom 2-3 with two runs scored, triple, stolen base, hit-by-pitch ... Bailey Alexander 1-4 with a RBI ... Caitlyn Hudgins 2-4 with two RBI ... Alex Richardson 2-3, triple, two RBI ... Mary Collins 1-2 with a walk, and run scored ... Allie Lapallo (13-13) took the loss for the Senators

With the win Trevecca moves to play in G-MAC Tournament Game #6 versus Game #2 Winner and second-seeded Kentucky Wesleyan College who defeated fifth-seeded Ursuline College 5-3 ... Trevecca is 15-10 all-time versus Kentucky Wesleyan College, the Panthers and Trojans split the four-game season series with the Trojans winning nine of the last 12 meetings
