Baseball | Trevecca Season Ends with Great Midwest Tourney Losses

MASON, Ohio - The Trevecca Nazarene University baseball team lost a pair of Great Midwest Athletic Conference (G-MAC) tournament games on Friday, ending their run at the G-MAC Championships and their season.

 

Kentucky Wesleyan College jumped out early and then held off several Trojan rallies for a 7-3 win. That put the Trojans in a must-win game that turned into a pitchers dual with Malone University. The Pioneers scored the games lone run in the top of the ninth on a squeeze play and held the Trojans for a 1-0 win.

The Panthers scored four in the first inning … Kentucky Wesleyan scored two more in the top of the third for a 6-0 lead … Trevecca scored a run in the bottom half of the third on a Griffin Ganick sacrifice fly scoring Patrick Reed for a 6-1 KWC lead … bottom of the fourth, Chandler Miller singled up the middle scoring Ethan Hurt for a 6-2 score ... each team scored a final run in the sixth for the 7-3 final, Trevecca's run came on a solo home run off the bat of Ethan Hurt

GM 2 (TNU 0, MU 1)

 MU scored the only run of the game in the top of the ninth to win the game 1-0, spoiling a terrific start by Mac Barnes ... Barnes pitched 7.2 innings allowing seven hits, but no runs and walked one with two strike outs

Ethan Harrison went 3-4 at the plate with a walk and a double … Ethan Hurt was 2-4 with a home run, a double, and two runs score … Thomas Leone came out of the bullpen pitched six innings of five hit ball allowing one earned run and six strikeouts … Jon Bolton pitched three perfect innings facing the minimum and striking out three panthers

GM 2 (TNU 0, MU 1)

 Patrick Reed went 1-3 with a stolen base … Mac Barnes pitched seven and two thirds scoreless innings allowing seven hits and getting two strikeouts

The tournament elimination ends the Trojans season.

 

Trevecca is 14-5 all-time in G-MAC Tournament play. The first G-MAC tournament was held at Trevecca's Jackson Field, but the 2017 Great Midwest Championship is the fourth consecutive to be played at Prasco Park & Legacy Field in Mason, Ohio. Trevecca is 90-23 versus the Great Midwest Athletic Conference members all-time. The Trojans, the five-time regular season G-MAC champions, are 81-21 in regular season G-MAC contests.

 

Trevecca is now 167-98 under head coach Ryan Schmalz. The Trojans are 81-21 in G-MAC regular season games and 15-5 in G-MAC Tournament games in the five years Schmalz has guided the program. The Trojans have won all five conference tournaments since Schmalz took over the program, which matches the existence of the conference. The Trojans have three tournament championships to show for it as well.
