CLEARWATER, Fla. – The Trevecca Nazarene University softball team ended their staty at the 2017 the National Fastptich Coaches Association (NFCA) Leadoff Classic with a memorable finish and victory over Tiffin University. The NFCA Leadoff Classic featured 16 teams from 10 different conferences at the Eddie Moore Complex.

GAME CHRONICLE 

The game came down to the final at bat for the Trojans in a wild 7th inning …the Trojans trailed the entire game … trailing first 1-0 after the first TU at bat when the Dragons took advantage of two defensive errors by TNU to plate a run … through three the Dragons led 3-1 … Tiffin, playing as the visiting team, led 5-3 going to the bottom of the 7th … with one out in the seventh TNU loaded the bases on a single by Mary Collins (SO/Collierville, TN), a walk to Savannah Fuston (FR/White House, TN), and Kat Burbrink (JR/Hamilton, OH) reached on a hit by pitch … with the bases loaded Dallas Richards (SO/Spring Hill, TN) singled to tied the game at 5-5 … then Ashton Stowe (SO/Mt. Juliet, TN) reached on a fielder choice, scoring Burbrink from third for the game winner (Watch Stowe drive in Burbrink)

TEAM STATS BREAKDOWN

Trevecca batters combined for 11 hits, drew six walks, and only had two batters go down on strikes … but left 12 runners on base and committed four errors … three Trojan pitchers combined to hold Tiffin to eight hits and walked four while striking out two Dragons

MaKray Odom (FR/McEwen, TN) had Trevecca's lone steal and Kaitlin Crumpler (SR/Smyrna, TN) the only extra base hit, a double … Crumpler hit 3-4 from the plate and drove in two … Mary Collins contributed a 2-3 game at the plate with a run scored and a RBI … Kat Burbrink had two RBI with a 1-2 day at the plate with a walk and a run scored … Taylor Green (SR/Maryville, TN) started in the circle, but Raygn Hall (FR/Kingston, TN) (1-2) picked up her first career win with two-thirds of an inning of  perfect pitching

WHATS NEXT 

Next for the Trojans is the Second Annual Trevecca Music City Invitational (MCI) at Drakes Creek Park in Hendersonville, Tenn. The 10-team field includes several teams predicted to challenge for their conference title while a number of teams bring preseason All-American, athletes on the NCAA Division II player of the year watch list, and conference player or pitcher of the year candidates.
