Men's Basketball | Trevecca Starts G-MAC 2-0 with Win at OVU; Home Thurday

VIENNA, W.Va. – The Trevecca Nazarene University men's basketball team won for the second consecutive time on the road and in Great Midwest Athletic Conference (G-MAC) play. The Trojans are now 2-0 in G-MAC play after winning 81-52 at the Snyder Activity Center.

TNU leads the all-time series with OVU 7-1

OVU's only win in the series came during TNU's last visit to Vienna, WV in 2016

The Scots are scheduled to visit Nashville and the Trojan Fieldhouse on February 16th

The 44 rebounds is second most on the season, 46 is the high versus McKendree

The 18 team assists is the most this season, the next best is 15 against Maryville and McKendree

Nine steals is the second most on the year, 10 were taken in the Missouri St. Louis game

 

PLAYER STATS REPORT

Jacob Williams (JR/Lebanon, TN) scored a team-high 22 with 6-of-11 shooting from the field, hit 5-of-8 from three-point range, collected a team-high nine rebounds, hit all five free throws, dished out two assists, and had a block

Devin Whitfield (FR/Lipscomb, AL) scored 15 with six assists and four rebounds

In all 11 Trojans scored and 13 who played grabbed at least one rebound

 

WILLIAMS FOR THE WEEK

On Thursday against Cedarville Williams scored 23 points, grabbed eight (8) rebounds, collected two steals, hit 9-of-17 from the field, 5-11 from deep, and added two assists

For the week Williams scored 45 points (22.5 ppg), grabbed 17 rebounds (8.5 rpg), 15-of-28 (53.5%) from the field, hit 10-19 (53%) from three-point range, 5-5 from the line, and added four assists, two steals, and a block

 

WHAT'S NEXT 

The first home date in 2017 is next for the Trojans when they host Malone University at 8 PM on January 12th at the Trojan Fieldhouse. The Pioneers (4-8, 0-2 G-MAC) are in their first year in the G-MAC. The game marks the first of a five-game home stand for the Trojans.

 

Trevecca hosts new NCAA Division II member Auburn University at Montgomery on Saturday, January 14th at 4 PM. The Warhawks are 4-12 on the year and are currently in their provisional year one and playing an independent schedule. Next season, the 2017-2018 year, they will move to provisional membership in the Gulf South Conference.
