Trevecca Softball | Coach Tyree Gets Win #300 With UIndy Upset

INDIANAPOLIS, Ind. – The eighth-seeded Trevecca Nazarene University softball team (44-15) upset the top-seeded University of Indianapolis (50-4), 2-1 in nine innings, in an opening round game at the NCAA Division II Regional at UIndy's Baumgartner Field. 

 

The won over the #2 ranked team in NCAA Division II softball is the 300th career win for Trevecca coach Ben Tyree.  

 

Tyree, now in his eighth season, is 300-103 at Trevecca. The 44 wins this season equal the second most for a Tyree coached Trojan squad. Only the 2001 team, with 48 wins, produced more. Tyree is the four-time G-MAC coach of the year and has earned the coach of the year award seven times in his eight years a Trevecca.

The Purple and White have won their last 10 games and 17 of their last 18.

  

It is the second year in a row that Trevecca and UIndy met in the opening round of the regional. The Greyhounds defeated Trevecca 3-1, also at Baumgartner Field, in last year's opener.

 

The NCAA Midwest Regional is broken into a pair of four-team double-elimination tournaments. The Midwest 2 Regional site is in St. Louis.

 

The Midwest 2 Regional is hosted by second-seeded University of Missouri - St. Louis (52-7). The UMSL Tritons will be joined by GLIAC-champ Wayne State University (46-7), Maryville University – St. Louis (37-14), and Truman State University (30-18).
